1. Water quality
In fact, whether it is the question of keeping Yuanbao parrot fish or king kong parrot fish, attention must be paid to temperature, water quality, feeding, water changes and other aspects. Yuanbao parrot fish like soft water that is weakly acidic and relatively low in hardness. This is very important for the coloration of parrot fish. The water for keeping Yuanbao parrots must have sufficient oxygen.
2. Water temperature
The Yuanbao parrot fish requires a water temperature of around 28 degrees, and is quite sensitive to temperature. Under low water temperature and large fluctuations in water temperature, it is prone to a stress reaction, causing its body color to become dull and lose its vivid luster, and even black stripes or markings may appear. During keeping, it is best to keep the water temperature within the range of 25°C to 28°C, and the temperature difference before and after each water change should not exceed 0.5 degrees.
3. Disease prevention and control
In parrot fish keeping, some parrot fish diseases will inevitably appear, so we need to keep fish medicine on hand at home for emergencies and timely treatment. As for mixed keeping, it is best not to keep them with flowerhorn cichlids, as flowerhorns are aggressive. You can choose to keep them with arowanas, warships, and parrot cichlids; these are all good choices.
4. Breeding
Parrot fish keeping involves the question of parrot fish breeding, because parrot fish are artificially crossbred from the red devil and the red-headed cichlid, so in principle they have no reproductive capacity. However, interested hobbyists can try breeding them using cichlid species for fun.
