The pangolin is an ancient mammal. According to scientific research, the pangolin has survived on Earth for at least more than 80 million years and has always been known for its tenacious vitality. It mainly inhabits the grass on foothills or the relatively humid mixed shrub thickets of hills, digs burrows to live in, and mostly builds its burrows in muddy soil. So what is the price of the pangolin? Is it a protected animal?

1. The price of the pangolin

Since the last century, as the pangolin's habitat has been continuously destroyed and humans have hunted and killed it on a large scale, the pangolin, one of the strangest and also oldest species surviving on Earth, is facing an enormous test for its survival, even to the point of extinction. It is protected by law in many countries in Asia, but because people have long believed that the pangolin has special traditional Chinese medicinal effects, there are still many cases of poaching and illegal hunting of pangolins. However, as our country's protection of pangolins has become increasingly strict, pangolins in our country have still received effective protection.

In our country, private buying and selling of pangolins is illegal. According to Article 26 of the new "Wildlife Protection Law", it is prohibited to sell, purchase, or utilize wildlife under special state protection and their products. If it is to be used for medicinal purposes, pangolins can still be bought in pharmacies, but the price is not cheap, roughly around 3000 yuan per kilogram. Of course, an individual certainly cannot take that much, and it should still be purchased according to a doctor's advice.

2. Is the pangolin a protected animal

In our country, the pangolin is a Class II protected animal. It is also included in the “Regulations on the Implementation of the Protection of Terrestrial Wild Animals” (1992) and the “Regulations on the Administration of the Import and Export of Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora” (2006). Except for Bhutan, all countries in Asia where pangolins are found list pangolins as protected animals and prohibit the hunting and commercial activities involving pangolins. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora also prohibited any international trade activities involving pangolins in 2002.

Pangolins reproduce relatively slowly, with one litter per year, usually producing only one cub each time, and occasionally two cubs. Therefore, after being hunted and killed on a large scale, they are extremely prone to extinction. Although pangolins are protected by law throughout Asia, under the stimulation of huge market demand and economic interests, these legal provisions have not played a sufficiently effective role. They have basically become extinct in many areas of Asia, and in the forests of Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos, only very few pangolins remain.

The above is some basic knowledge about pangolins. In our country's criminal law, buying and selling pangolins can be punished by more than ten years of fixed-term imprisonment, and also by a fine or confiscation of property. Everyone should not risk breaking the law just for a momentary pleasure of the tongue.
