When it comes to turtles, everyone is surely familiar with them, and many people like to keep a few at home, so how do baby turtles get through winter?

1. Temperature requirements

Baby turtles are cold-resistant, but at the same time they themselves need to consume a large amount of heat, so the water temperature should not be too low, generally kept at around 25 degrees is appropriate, and at the lowest it must not fall below 10 degrees, so that the baby turtle's appetite will not decrease. In addition, thin and weak turtles can also be fattened up in winter by using heating.

2. Pond management

When winter is approaching, river sand can be added to the pond, letting the baby turtles burrow into the sand to hibernate, which has a warming effect. Of course, there is another very important point, which is to check the hibernating turtles at irregular intervals, mainly to check the turtles' physical condition, whether they are sick, and whether their strength can carry them through the hibernation period.

3. Water quality management

When winter comes, baby turtles depend on water temperature, so in winter the water does not need to be changed as frequently as at other times, because we need to maintain the water temperature; if the water is changed too frequently in winter, it will cause the water temperature to drop, affecting the turtles' hibernation and growth. Under normal circumstances, change the water once a month, and each time you change the water you need to keep 1/3 of the pond water, so that both water quality and water temperature can be maintained.

4. Feeding management

Generally, relatively robust turtles will gradually reduce their appetite between September and October, so before winter sets in we need to make sure the turtles can eat their fill, especially before entering hibernation they must have a full meal, otherwise the body's heat cannot be sustained until the temperature rises again, and then the losses are very great. So after entering September, it is necessary to adjust the turtles' nutritional needs. Secondly, for turtles that have not entered hibernation, we only need to feed them according to the usual feeding methods.
