In recent years, China's demand for crayfish has been growing larger and larger, and the farming area has also increased year by year. But in the farming process, the invasion of diseases gives farmers endless headaches. So how do you treat diseases in crayfish farming?

How to Treat Diseases in Crayfish Farming?

There are many kinds of diseases that harm farmed crayfish, and different conditions have different treatment methods. For example:

1. Black gill

The symptoms are that the gill filaments of the crayfish change from flesh-white to brown, then dark brown, and in severe cases turn black, with part of the gill tissue shrinking and becoming necrotic. This causes the crayfish to become weak in activity, lying on or clinging to aquatic plants with the body exposed above the water surface, moving slowly, and finally dying of breathing difficulty.

Treatment: It is recommended to use a strong bottom-cleaning agent to improve the bottom about once every 7 days, and to use super iodine for sterilization on a regular basis; regulate the water quality well and manage the aquatic plants well.

2. Body ulceration

When the body surface of the crayfish is injured and infected by bacteria or Vibrio, its shell will show obvious ulcerated spots at the lesion sites, generally grayish white, and black in severe cases. The tail fan has bulges, and the edges are ulcerated, necrotic and incomplete.

Treatment: Use super iodine for sterilization every 15 days, together with a strong bottom-cleaning agent to improve the bottom; in severe cases it can be used twice in a row; 24-48 hours after sterilization, add natural enemies of Vibrio.

3. Hemorrhagic disease

Due to Aeromonas bacteria, the body surface of the diseased crayfish is covered with bleeding spots of varying sizes, especially obvious on the appendages and abdomen, and the anus is red and swollen, followed by death before long.

Treatment: Isolate diseased crayfish promptly, and splash the whole pond with 25-30 kg of quicklime dissolved in water per mu per meter of water depth; use 750 g of tobacco leaves per mu per meter of water depth, soak them in warm water for 5-8 hours, then splash the whole pond, and at the same time add 0.8 g of florfenicol per kg of feed (this product contains 10% raw material powder), feeding continuously for 3-5 days; sprinkle 50 ml of Lopu Youdian per mu over the whole pond.

4. Failure to molt

When the water in which the crayfish grows lacks a certain element, cracks will appear at the junction between the head-thorax and the abdomen, or the whole body will turn black.

Treatment: Mix 1‰-2‰ molting hormone into the feed. Or mix bone meal, eggshell powder, etc. into the feed to increase the calcium content of the feed.

However, although the diseases of farmed crayfish can be treated, prevention should still be the main focus, doing a good job of pond clearing, disinfection and other work.
