Detailed Guide to Pruning Methods and Techniques for the Peace Lily
The peace lily, also known as white sail, blooms in spring and summer, with flowers rising above the leaves, white or slightly green, and a creamy-yellow spadix, making it very attractive. Many people like to keep it at home, so what pruning methods for the peace lily are there?
1. Pruning leaves
During the growing period, pests and diseases inevitably cause yellow and diseased leaves, so they should be pruned promptly and burned to eliminate bacteria. Long-term placement in a shady environment will cause branches and leaves to grow leggy; at this time, the leggy branches and leaves should be cut off as soon as possible to avoid insufficient nutrients.
2. Removing spent flowers
When the flowering period ends, some flowers have already died but have not yet withered. These spent flowers should be pruned promptly, but there is no need to cut off the flower stem; only the flowering part needs to be removed.
3. Pruning roots and stems
Generally, roots and stems only need pruning when repotting and changing the soil. First wash the roots and stems clean, check for old roots, diseased roots, dead roots, etc., keep the healthy and thick roots and stems, and cut off the rest.
4. Thinning dense leaves
For a vigorously growing peace lily, thinning the dense leaves is also necessary. Cut away leaves that are too densely packed to leave enough growing space for the peace lily, so that its leaves are in a growing environment with good ventilation and sufficient light.
5. Removing growth points
In order to control the growth rate of the peace lily and prevent leggy growth, the growth points should be removed during its growing stage. This can effectively control its growth, avoid producing too many branches, and save nutrients well.
