Is anchovy a saltwater fish or a freshwater fish? Let's make it clear in one article
Anchovy is a saltwater fish. The anchovy is a small migratory fish that usually inhabits the open sea. Every year in late spring and early summer, it moves in schools from the sea into rivers, migrating upstream to spawn at the freshwater inlets of the middle and lower reaches. It is found near the major river mouths along the coast of our country, and is most abundant at the Haihe River in Tianjin, the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and the Pearl River estuary. The spawning period is from April to August, and the anchovy from the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River before Qingming is of the best quality.
How to raise anchovies
1. Temperature control
Water temperature is a factor well worth paying attention to for anchovies. Since the native environment of anchovies is tropical in nature, the water temperature at the site you choose must be high. The most suitable water temperature is around 18° to 25°. The lowest air temperature anchovies can adapt to is around 10℃, the normal growth temperature is above 18℃, and the highest temperature should preferably not exceed 35℃. Too high a temperature leads to frequent fish diseases, and too low is the same; at the same time, too low a temperature can also cause death.
2. Fish pond management
When building the fish tanks, they should be divided into two types: fry ponds and adult fish ponds. One adult fish pond can be divided into 4-6 fry ponds. Generally, fry ponds are about 1.2 m deep, with about 0.8-1 m of water added, while the water depth of adult fish ponds is controlled at 1.5 m. The fish pond just needs to be similar to other normal fish ponds. Before putting in the fry, disinfect first, then clean thoroughly, sun-dry for about a week, then add water and let it settle for about 1 day, and only then can the fish be put into the pond.
3. Feed selection
Anchovies are fairly omnivorous fish and can be fed quite a lot of things. If you plan to sell them as ornamental fish, mainly feed them feed; if you sell them as food fish, you need to regularly feed them some worm types rich in protein. The more common feeding worms include Artemia larvae, bloodworms, water fleas, etc. If conditions permit, you can also chop earthworms into small pieces and feed them, which is a relatively high-quality feed. If feeding with feed, try to mainly use pellet-type feed.
4. Feeding
Anchovies are a small-sized fish, so they do not need to be fed too much each time, but they need multiple meals. Generally, feed 3-4 times a day, and appropriately reduce by one time in winter. Each feeding amount should be maintained at about 15-20 minutes per 20 sq m, or stop when few fish come to eat the bait that has been put in. If feeding worms, once every 2 days is enough. The worms fed must undergo parasite removal treatment and disease prevention treatment to prevent infecting the anchovies.
