How Do Myna Birds Get Through Winter? A Detailed Guide to Winter Care Methods
Wild myna birds fly to relatively warm places to spend the winter before winter arrives, for example, mynas in regions such as Northern Europe and Russia migrate to the relatively warm United Kingdom to spend the winter. If the myna is kept as a pet, pay attention to keeping it warm, put on the cage cover properly, and let it bask in the sun more. Next, let's introduce how myna birds are kept.
How are myna birds kept?
1. Preparation
First choose the cage. Myna cages include round cages with a dome top, round cages with a flat top, and square cages with an arched top, among others. You can choose according to your own preference. The size of the cage is generally about 40cm in diameter and height. Place a perch in the cage and prepare two small bowls, one for food and one for water. Place a board at the bottom of the cage to hold droppings, and attach a cage cover on the outside.
2. Feeding
For young birds bought back, you can feed them cooked eggs, steamed buns, rice, and tofu, or chop meat into a paste, roll it into small balls, and feed 3-5 balls each time. After feeding, give a little water with a dropper or small straw, feeding once every one or two hours. Young birds can first use a cardboard box as a nest, lined with some soft rags, and be placed in the nest after feeding. Put the nest in a dark place, pay attention to keeping it warm, and prevent it from getting cold. After the young bird can feed itself, add egg yolk and drinking water to the cage every day, but do not fill it too full.
3. Water Bathing
Mynas like water baths. In summer, once a day or once every few days; in spring and autumn, reduce the frequency; in winter, bathe very rarely. The water temperature should be maintained between 0-12 degrees. Mynas should bathe in clean water. In addition, mynas are naturally afraid of the cold, so the bird cage must have a cage cover. Always pay attention to keeping warm in winter, and let the myna bask in the sun more on sunny days.
4. Cleaning
Mynas eat a lot and also droppings a lot, and the droppings have a fishy and foul smell, so the cage bottom and the dropping tray should be cleaned and scrubbed once a day. Some fine sand can be placed at the bottom of the cage to prevent soiling the myna's toes. The bird's food must be fresh, especially soft food and powdered food, which spoil easily. Generally, it is required to be eaten within 1-2 hours. The food bowl should be washed every day, and fresh drinking water should be replaced. Other cage supplies should be cleaned 3-4 times a week.
Myna birds are relatively cold-sensitive birds, so in winter a warm environment must be ensured so that they can get through the winter safely.
