What to Do If Anthurium Leaves Turn Black? Causes and Solutions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
With its elegant, beautiful and simple appearance, it has won the love and affection of the vast majority of people. This plant is actually very easy to grow, but sometimes there are small troubles, such as leaves turning black. What should you do?

1. Moisture level

This mainly refers to overwatering. This is a major cause of plant leaves turning black. Once watered excessively, the soil in the pot and the plant itself cannot absorb it, resulting in waterlogging, and the leaves begin to turn black. So when watering, pay attention to whether there is waterlogging in the pot. Just water the soil thoroughly, and do not water too frequently.

2. Improper fertilisation

When fertilising during the plant's growing period, you may have used a strong, highly concentrated fertiliser. Since the plant itself has weak tolerance, root burn can occur, causing the leaves to turn black - in plain terms, simply too much nutrients. Just be careful to choose a low-concentration fertiliser when fertilising.

3. Improper repotting

When repotting the plant, improper technique can lead to root damage. Basically, after repotting it goes through a buffer period to adapt to a new environment. After repotting, place the plant in a ventilated spot, but not in direct sunlight, and pay attention to watering. After repotting, just leave it alone and let it adapt to the new environment on its own.

4. Pests and diseases

Generally speaking, when it suffers from pests and diseases, the leaves can also turn black. This is mostly due to the threat of leaf spot disease, which is mainly caused by it being kept in such conditions for a long time and in a poorly ventilated situation. To reduce pests and diseases, you must create a good growing environment for it and avoid diseases caused by prolonged hot, humid and stuffy conditions.

5. Light

There is another possibility - the problem of direct sunlight. Because it needs sunlight during its growth process, but not direct blazing exposure, which would not only affect its glossiness and thus reduce its ornamental appeal, but could also cause the leaves to turn black. So during normal care, try to let it receive diffused light.
