Saltwater sea bass, also known as Japanese sea bass or spotted sea bass, is mainly distributed in the coastal shallow seas of China and Japan, but every year during the peak fishing season, sea bass swim upstream into the freshwater areas of rivers. Sea bass can also survive in freshwater, so sea bass is both a freshwater fish and a saltwater fish.

1. Different living environments
River perch is mainly distributed as a freshwater fish in the temperate and cold zones of the Eurasian continent, living in rivers and lakes, and is a freshwater sea bass; saltwater sea bass lives in the sea, mainly distributed in the western Pacific, and is produced in China's coastal waters and freshwater bodies connected to the sea, with more in the East China Sea and Bohai Sea.

The most obvious mark of saltwater sea bass is that there are many black round dots on its back. Different varieties of saltwater sea bass may have different distributions of round dots. The round dots on black bass are not obvious, while river perch has no black round dots on its back.
3. Different taste
The meat of saltwater sea bass is relatively dry and rough, and the fishy smell is also stronger; the meat of river perch is relatively elastic, and after steaming it easily falls apart, tasting relatively fresh and savory. It is very suitable for steaming and suitable for the elderly and children to eat.

River perch is a bit more expensive. In terms of how they are kept alive, the river perch sold in supermarkets is generally fresh and live sea bass, while saltwater sea bass is mostly sold chilled; in terms of taste, river perch is relatively fresh and savory, with a better taste. Therefore, the unit price of river perch is a bit higher than that of saltwater sea bass.
