Many people are keeping small animals nowadays, and some of them may be beginners. So, have you ever wondered what happens when animals inbreed? Let's take a look!

1. What Happens When Animals Inbreed

Inbreeding in animals triggers a series of problems. For example, it can cause issues such as physical defects, poor physical condition, and physical disabilities. Different animals produce different results, so each case needs to be looked at individually.

2. Animal Reproductive Methods

Animals reproduce through oviparity, viviparity, and ovoviviparity:

1. Oviparity refers to a reproductive method in which the fertilized egg develops independently outside the mother's body. During development, the embryo of an oviparous animal relies entirely on the yolk contained in the egg itself for nutrition, and the eggs of such animals are generally larger and contain more yolk. Oviparity is very common in the animal kingdom: insects, birds, the vast majority of reptiles and fish are oviparous, and even lower mammals such as the platypus are oviparous.

2. Viviparity refers to a reproductive method in which the fertilized egg develops inside the mother's uterus. The embryo of a viviparous animal obtains nutrition from the mother through the placenta until birth. The vast majority of mammals are viviparous.

3. Although the fertilized egg of the animal develops inside the mother's body, its nutrition still depends on the yolk contained in the egg itself, with no or very little nutritional connection to the mother. This reproductive method is called ovoviviparity. Sharks and certain venomous snakes (such as the pit viper) are ovoviviparous.
