Under artificial keeping conditions, in April-May and September-November, when the temperature reaches 18-22°C, the turtle is less active in the morning and evening and more active around midday; in June-August each year, when the temperature is 25-34°C, the turtle is mainly active at night, early morning or dusk, and hides in caves, among trees or in sand and soil during the day. If it is the rainy season, it often goes outside the cave to get rained on. From December to January-March of the following year is the turtle's hibernation period. When the temperature is 19°C, the turtle stops eating; when the temperature drops to around 10°C, the turtle enters hibernation. During hibernation, it likes to hide in caves, piles of branches or under a fairly thick layer of withered grass, and mostly in sunny, wind-sheltered spots. When the temperature is 13°C, the turtle wakes up again.
