What is the difference between grass goldfish and Shubunkin goldfish? A quick guide to tell them apart
Grass goldfish and koi look very similar. Many beginner fish keepers cannot tell them apart. So where is the difference between grass goldfish and koi? Can they be kept together?
Differences between grass goldfish and koi
1. Both all-gold grass goldfish and koi exist. But the gold ones sold outside are mostly grass gold; koi are mostly red and white, and the red is usually deep red.
2. One has barbels and the other does not; grass goldfish have no barbels.
3. A fish with a white body and a red head is a koi; of course, if it has a fleshy growth on its head, whether red or not, it is a goldfish.
4. Koi have a plump, round body shape; grass goldfish are flatter by comparison.
Can grass goldfish and koi be kept together
As for whether koi and grass goldfish can be kept together, we should look at it from two sides. Why do we say that? It is true that some fish keepers keep grass goldfish and koi together, and can also raise them all well, but most fish keepers simply cannot reach that level.
1. Put the koi in the tank first, and add the grass goldfish after they are settled
2. When keeping them together, be sure to provide enough food
3. Selecting grass goldfish requires skill
4. The individuals should not differ too much in size
