The earthworm, also known as dilong, qushan, jiancan, yinwu, quexing, hanxin, mingqi, diqiqiao, ruanshan, is an animal widely distributed across ecosystems. So what food does it like to eat?

1. What food do earthworms like to eat?

Earthworms are detritivorous animals; they feed on decaying plants or other organic matter. They swallow soil and sand grains to obtain the organic substances within.

2. How are earthworms farmed?

1. Farming beds

According to the actual conditions of the farming site, choose to lay the farming beds parallel or perpendicular to the length direction of the greenhouse. Generally, the width of the farming beds is controlled at 1.2-2 m, the thickness is about 25 cm, and the moisture of the base material is kept at 60%-70%. Also pay attention to reasonably arranging work passages and digging drainage ditches.

2. Seed stock

Choose earthworm seed stock that is more suitable for local environmental conditions or has special uses. Generally, varieties such as “Taiping No. 2” or “Beixing No. 2” are selected for farming, and the input amount of earthworm seed stock is 0.5-2 kg/m2.

3. Feeding

Earthworms have a large feed intake and at the same time produce a large amount of worm castings, so sufficient feed must be supplemented in a timely manner, and the worm castings must be removed regularly. When it is observed that the feed on the surface of the earthworm farming bed has turned into castings, a new layer of feed 5-10 cm thick can be spread on top, allowing the earthworms to feed, rest, and move in the new feed layer. Turn the farming bed regularly to ensure the feed is completely consumed by the earthworms and to improve the air permeability of the farming bed.

The amount of feed to be added has a great relationship with temperature. Determine the specific amount of feed to add according to the principle of adding more feed at suitable temperatures (20-25 degrees C), reducing feed at high temperatures (25-30 degrees C), and adding less feed at low temperatures (15-20 degrees C).

4. Management

If the facility vegetable field is a plastic greenhouse, earthworm farming is greatly affected by natural climate changes, so environmental control work must be done well.

The suitable temperature for earthworm farming is 17-28 degrees C. When the weather is hot in summer, cooling measures must be taken.
