What Is the Difference Between Flower Shrimp and Black Tiger Shrimp? A Quick Guide to Telling Them Apart
When black tiger shrimp are mentioned, everyone is surely familiar with them. During the Spring Festival period, the price is a little high, but they are very popular. So what is the difference between flower shrimp and black tiger shrimp?
1. What is the difference between flower shrimp and black tiger shrimp?
There is no difference between flower shrimp and black tiger shrimp; the two are the same kind of shrimp, just called by different names. The body of the black tiger shrimp has alternating earth-yellow and dark-brown transverse banded patterns on its back. The upper edge of the frontal rostrum has 7-8 teeth, and the lower edge has 2-3 teeth. The lateral ridge is low, and the posterior ridge has a groove that is very obvious. They are mostly produced in the coastal areas of our country.
2. How are black tiger shrimp farmed?
1. Shrimp pond conditions
The shrimp ponds have a sandy bottom and cement side slopes, with a pond depth of 2 m and a water intake depth of 1.6 m. There are 60 ponds, with an area of 2~6 mu per pond, totaling 280 mu. The seawater area has good water quality and abundant water sources. There is a freshwater source and a secondary sand filtration reservoir (filter pipes are buried in the reservoir and covered with more than 50 cm of sand for secondary filtration). There is a central sewage discharge system, and each pond is equipped with 4~8 paddlewheel aerators.
2. Shrimp fry
Shrimp fry are required to be uniform in individual size, robust and energetic, good at swimming against the current, with a smooth body surface and no attachments, and a body length of more than 0.9 cm. After virus and Vibrio testing, they must not carry several specific pathogens such as WSSV, TSV, IHHNV and IMNV, and the Vibrio count must be within the safe range.
3. Water quality requirements when releasing fry
The water level is about 100 cm, the water color is yellow-green, and the transparency is 30~40 cm, fertile but fresh and lively, and the basic bait organisms in the pond water are relatively rich. The optimal water temperature is 25~32°C. The optimal pH value of the shrimp pond is between 8.0~8.6, and it should not be lower than 7.6. The difference from the pH of the nursery pond should not exceed 0.5. The salinity of the shrimp pond is controlled between 15~25‰, and the difference from the salinity of the nursery pond should not exceed 5‰.
