What is the difference between a ink turtle and a grass turtle? Explained clearly in one article
The ink turtle, also known as the black turtle, is a type of turtle in the family Geoemydidae. Below we introduce thedifference between the ink turtle and the grass turtle.
1. The difference between the ink turtle and the grass turtle
The ink turtle itself is a grass turtle; it is just that when a male grass turtle grows up, under the stimulation of sex hormones in its body, its whole body turns black all over, and essentially the ink turtle is actually just an ordinary grass turtle.
2. Common diseases of turtles
1. White eye disease
The turtle's eyes become inflamed, gradually turning grayish-white and swollen; the cornea and surrounding areas become ulcerated due to inflammation, and the outside of the eyeball is covered by a layer of white secretion, so that the turtle cannot eat, and may even go blind and gradually die. The cause is an eye injury combined with poor water quality, leading to infection.
2. Shell rot disease
White spots appear on the turtle's carapace, plastron and limbs (early symptoms), slowly becoming red patches; when pressed firmly, bloody fluid comes out, and in severe cases the shell becomes ulcerated and perforated.
3. Gastrointestinal disease
It is mainly caused by indigestion due to spoiled feed, deteriorating water quality and unstable temperature, with the turtle not eating, unformed stools and diarrhea.
4. Pneumonia
A sudden drop in temperature causes inflammation of the turtle's lungs. This disease often appears in summer or during hibernation. Affected turtles have nasal fluid flowing from the nose, rapid breathing, a louder sound than usual, and white mucus at the mouth. Land turtles suffering from this disease drink large amounts of water.
Turtles have an extremely close relationship with Chinese culture. As early as the Neolithic Age, the ancients already regarded turtles as a treasure for protection. During the Yin and Shang period, people carved divination content on turtle shells, thus leaving behind “oracle bone script”.
