But some people have rather unusual tastes, just like those who enjoy stinky tofu, and they really like eating rotten eggs. So can you still eat a rotten egg after boiling it?
Can Rotten Eggs Be Eaten?
Although after heating a rotten egg, some gases and volatile low-molecular-weight substances can evaporate, reducing the smell and lightening the color, most of the spoilage substances, mold toxins, nitrates, nitrites, pigments and other harmful substances cannot be eliminated. Some of them may be carcinogens, and all of them can harm the body. Therefore, rotten eggs should not be eaten.
What Happens If You Eat a Rotten Egg?
1. A small amount may cause no problem. For most healthy people, eating one boiled rotten egg will not cause any major harm, but a boiled rotten egg will still carry a rotten smell. It is best to rinse your mouth and brush your teeth right away, then chew two pieces of gum to freshen your breath.
2. A large amount may cause food poisoning and other symptoms. If you eat several boiled rotten eggs, or eat rotten eggs raw, it may irritate the stomach and intestines, pollute the healthy environment of the gut, and cause a series of uncomfortable food poisoning symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting and dizziness. If you feel any physical discomfort after eating, it is best to seek medical care as soon as possible and wait for the doctor to assess the condition before receiving targeted treatment. Do not induce vomiting or take medication on your own, so as not to worsen the condition.
