The Difference Between Boas and Pythons Explained Clearly in One Go
All kinds of snakes live in various parts of the world, among which boas and pythons are snakes of enormous size.So what is the difference between boas and pythons? What do they eat?
1. What is the difference between boas and pythons?
First, boas are ovoviviparous, while pythons are oviparous; second, boas belong to the family Boidae, while pythons belong to the family Pythonidae; third, a boa carries its young for nine months and gives birth to at least 18 and at most 42 young in one litter, while a python incubates its eggs for about 121-140 days, with egg-laying taking about 3 hours, sometimes lasting several days, and the number of eggs laid ranges from 8-103; the eggs hatch successively after 55-61 days of continuous incubation.
2. What do boas and pythons eat?
1. Boas
The prey of the family Boidae includes mammals and birds. They are also able to swallow prey larger than their own diameter. Snakes have no bladder; both urine and feces are expelled through the cloaca. Their gastric juice contains a high concentration of hydrochloric acid, and they can digest even large animals within a few days; bones are also digested, and only teeth, hair and claws are expelled. They use the solid muscles of their bodies to coil around their prey, making it impossible for the prey's chest cavity to expand and thus to breathe. The prey is swallowed whole. Boidae snakes generally do not kill their prey by breaking its bones.
2. Pythons
When hunting, they often crawl slowly to approach their prey, quickly bite it, then coil around it with their bodies until it dies, and flatten it into an elongated shape, then secrete saliva to lubricate the food for swallowing. They can eat animals such as goats, deer, muntjacs and pigs weighing 10-15 kilograms, and often feed on rodents, birds, reptiles and amphibians. Pythons have a large appetite and can swallow an animal equal to or exceeding their own body weight in one meal. This species has strong digestive power and can digest everything except the hair of the prey, but after a full meal it can go without food for several months.
