Symptoms
Generally, one week before farrowing, there is reduced appetite or complete loss of appetite and listlessness; body temperature, respiration and pulse are generally normal, and the sow gradually becomes thin.
Prevention
1. Strengthen feed management, feed more green and succulent feed, and reduce the volume and feed less but more frequently. It is strictly forbidden to feed moldy or frozen feed.
2. Reduce stress and increase exercise.
3. Pregnant sows should not be fed cottonseed cake, because the gossypol it contains is harmful to the sow and piglets.
Treatment
The treatment principles are antibacterial control of systemic infection, cardiac support and fluid replacement, relief of body poisoning, nourishing the blood and calming the fetus, and regulating the spleen and stomach.
1. Penicillin 3.2 million units, 25% vitamin C 20 ml, normal saline 1000 ml, injected intravenously once; 25% analgin 10 ml intramuscularly, twice a day. Use continuously for 2-3 days.
2. Traditional Chinese medicine formula: rehmannia, angelica, white peony root, astragalus, codonopsis, atractylodes, teasel root 45 g each, chuanxiong, roasted licorice, amomum, scutellaria 30 g each, glutinous rice 120 g, decocted in water, or add sow life essence to the feed, which effectively relieves and treats sows not eating before farrowing.
There are many domestic sow breeds, such as Taihu pig, Landrace, Large White, Erhualian, Jinhua pig, Duroc, Pietrain, Rongchang pig, and so on.
