The mouth cleft slopes distinctly downward, with the lower jaw covering the upper jaw, and the lower jaw has a structure similar to a brood pouch that can be used for mouthbrooding fry. There is one pair of barbels. The eyes are large and flexible. The scales are large, and the outer edges of the scales are pinkish-orange and gradually fade as the fish grows. The anal fin extends from behind the anus to the caudal peduncle, and the dorsal fin is slightly shorter than the anal fin. It can grow up to 120 cm.
2. Distribution
The silver arowana lives in tropical rivers and lakes, prefers calm conditions, and usually swims in environments overgrown with aquatic plants. It is widely distributed in the Amazon River basin and its tributaries in South America.

3. How do you keep a silver arowana these days?
1. Water temperature
Silver arowanas have relatively high water temperature requirements. It is recommended to keep the temperature at 23°C to 28°C year-round, and keep the pH between 6 and 8 to prevent excessive acidity. In addition, seasonal changes will cause temperature differences, so remember to adjust the temperature of the fish tank.
2. Lighting
Control the lighting for silver arowanas at about 8 hours per day. Without enough light, the silver arowana's back will become dull and lusterless. Silver arowanas are silver all over and do not require color enhancement, so a trichromatic white tube is sufficient. If conditions permit, try to let the silver arowana absorb natural light. If only lamplight is used, the back of the silver arowana may turn black.
3. Water changes
Water needs to be changed about twice a week, with about 30 percent changed each time. In addition, the fish tank should be wiped and washed frequently to keep it clean and free of scale, and food residue should be cleaned up promptly to avoid polluting the water quality, breeding bacteria, and causing illness in the silver arowana.
4. Feeding
In addition to special arowana feed, they can also be fed fish, shrimp, and so on to increase nutrition.
5. Mixed keeping
Silver arowanas are large and relatively ferocious, so keeping them mixed with other fish is not recommended.
Arowanas are relatively large and grow quickly, so when preparing a fish tank, it is best to choose a larger one.
