In recent years crayfish have been extremely popular, becoming the main force of summer late-night snacks. Now quite a few people have joined the ranks of crayfish farming. So what are the prospects for farming crayfish in 2020? How much does the cost require?

1. Current state of the crayfish market

At present, if farmers want to make money by raising crayfish, whether they profit or lose depends mainly on the market price of crayfish. When the farming cost is higher than the market price, no matter how you farm it, you lose money. When the farming cost is lower than the market, no matter how you farm it, you make money. Judging by the market patterns of previous years, the market prices in the two periods from early May to mid-June and from mid-September to mid-November are lower than at other times, so when putting them on the market you need to choose to sell during high-price periods.

2. The farming cost of crayfish

The cost of crayfish farming is mainly made up of feed, infrastructure, aquatic plant seed, medication, fertilizer, seed stock, machinery, water and electricity, labour, harvesting equipment, rent, interest and so on.

(1) Infrastructure

Buildings: calculated at 20,000 yuan per 100 mu, fully depreciated over 5 years, that is 40 yuan per mu per year, which works out to a cost of 0.07 yuan per jin of crayfish (calculated on an annual output of 600 jin of crayfish, the same below).

(2) Civil engineering works: calculated at 900 yuan per mu, fully depreciated over 5 years, that is 180 yuan per year, a cost of 0.3 yuan per jin of crayfish.

1. Machinery: 30 yuan per mu, a cost of 0.05 yuan per jin of crayfish.

2. Harvesting equipment: 180 yuan per mu, a cost of 0.3 yuan per jin of crayfish.

3. Rent: 800 yuan per mu, a cost of 1.33 yuan per jin of crayfish.

(3) Aquatic plant seed: calculated at 60 yuan per mu, a cost of 0.1 yuan per jin of crayfish. If you have your own seed, not only is this cost lower, but it can also become one of the sources of income.

(4) Medication: 600 yuan per mu, a cost of 1 yuan per jin of crayfish. When a major disease occurs, the medication cost is often much higher than this. The variability of this kind of expense is related to the level of management.

(5) Fertilizer: 60 yuan per mu, a cost of 0.1 yuan per jin of crayfish. This cost mainly depends on water-conditioning technique, and the cost is not fixed.

(6) Water and electricity: 30 yuan per mu, a cost of 0.05 yuan per jin of crayfish. This cost lies in daily water quality regulation, the level of aquatic plant management, disease prevention and control, and so on, and is variable.

(7) Labour: 600 yuan per mu, a cost of 1 yuan per jin of crayfish. If the area is small, it can be ignored; if the area is large and the output is high, the cost increases accordingly.

(8) Seed stock: calculated at an input-to-output ratio of 1:4, at 28 yuan per jin, a cost of 7 yuan per jin of crayfish. This cost is one of the biggest variables; those with plenty of their own seed stock basically have no cost. Those who rely entirely on buying high-priced seed have a very high cost.

(9) Interest: taking 100 mu as an example, infrastructure 110,000 yuan, rent 80,000 yuan, machinery 3,000 yuan, aquatic plants 6,000 yuan, a subtotal of 199,000 yuan, calculated at a monthly interest of 1.5 fen over 5 months, about 15,000 yuan in interest, an average of 150 yuan per mu, with one crop of 300 jin of crayfish, a cost of 0.5 yuan per jin of crayfish. This cost becomes a variable depending on how much of your own funds you have and how high the interest on borrowed capital is.

(10) Feed: for every 1 jin of crayfish grown, calculated at current feed prices, the estimate is about 3 yuan.

3. What are the prospects for farming crayfish in 2020?

The crayfish market in 2020 should also be fairly hot; crayfish are an indispensable food in the summer late-night snack market and are extremely popular in summer, and it can be said that every late-night snack shop has crayfish. The sales prospects are very considerable. Friends with the right conditions can farm crayfish in moderation.
