Eels are nutritious and delicious, and their farming value has always been very high. So do you know how much an eel fry cost in 2019-2020? What are the artificial breeding techniques for them?

1. How much did an eel fry cost in 2019-2020

Eel fry varieties are mainly divided into white eel and river eel. Among them, white eel fry are more expensive, at around 30 yuan each, while river eels are more numerous, so their price is also somewhat lower than white eel fry, at between 5-16 yuan each. However, the varieties and quality of eel fry vary from place to place, so prices will fluctuate slightly. The actual price still depends on the quality of the local eel fry.

2. Artificial breeding techniques for eel fry

1. Control water quality: It is best to choose an area near an estuary with open water surface, relatively low wind speed, and a water depth of more than 4 m at low tide to place the net cages. The water temperature should preferably be controlled at 8-30°C, and a water area with a seawater flow rate of 0.5 m/s is most suitable; if this cannot be achieved, the flow rate should preferably still be below 1 m/s. In terms of water quality requirements, a seawater specific gravity of 1.01-1.02, dissolved oxygen of more than 5 mg per liter, and a pH value of 7-8.5 are most suitable.

2. Choose net cages: Use seamless mesh net cages of 3×3×3 m or 6×3×3 m, with a 1×0.5×1 m multi-layer net frame placed inside as a resting platform, and leave a 15 cm anti-escape net brim at the open top of the cage.

3. Stocking fry: The stocking density is 150 tails per sq m. If there are no young eels and black fry eels are stocked instead, the density is 500 tails per sq m. Before stocking, eel fry should first be disinfected with a medicated bath to prevent disease.

4. Feed feeding: Except for feeding once at 8 p.m. every day in early spring and winter, feed once each at 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. every day during the rest of the time. Feed on fixed feeding platforms. Use a complete compound feed containing multiple vitamins specially used for eels. The total daily feeding amount changes at any time according to the eel growth stage: 15% feeding amount during the adult eel stage, 3% during the young eel stage, about 5% during the black fry eel stage, and 0.5-1% during high-temperature and overwintering periods.

5. Cage separation management: After about one month of rearing, the density of eels increases greatly, and the differences among grown individuals are relatively large, so they must be screened and separated into cages for rearing management in a timely manner. Generally, they are separated according to body constitution and individual size. During the screening and separation process, operations should be careful and meticulous to avoid scraping the fish bodies.

6. Regularly change cages: In order to keep the net cages clean and hygienic, prevent disease, and ensure unobstructed water exchange, the net cages should be replaced in a timely manner: once every 10 days in summer and autumn, and once every 50 days in early spring and winter. The replaced net cages should be cleaned thoroughly for next use.

7. Daily management: Manage the net cages in groups, test water quality every day, keep detailed records of weather, water temperature, feeding, and so on, observe the feeding and growth of the eels, and once problems are found, handle them promptly.

Eels are valuable freshwater aquaculture fish, and they live and grow quickly and have strong adaptability. The technical requirements for artificial breeding are not high. As long as the breeding methods are appropriate, it is not difficult to obtain high-yield and high-efficiency returns from eel farming. Farmers who are interested can give it a try.
