Many people have probably seen the TV drama "Red Fox Operation," but few have ever seen a wild red fox. Recently, He Xiyan, a forest ranger at the Amuer Forestry Bureau in the Greater Khingan Mountains of Heilongjiang Province, was fortunate enough to encounter a spirit of the mountains——the Greater Khingan red fox.

On December 12, in the Greater Khingan Mountains of Heilongjiang Province, Wang Zhiyonghe, an employee of the Longhe management and protection area of the Amuer Forestry Bureau, and his wife He Xiyan were on their way home when they passed along National Highway G331 and spotted a fox foraging by the roadside, bright red in color.

What kind of creature is the red fox, really

The red fox is actually an alternative name for this biological population; its official Chinese scientific name is the red fox (Vulpes vulpes), and the creature has many other names such as grass fox, southern fox, fire fox, silver fox, and cross fox. Simply put, because the red fox is widely distributed around the world, it is only natural that it is called different names in different regions. In fact, the red fox is now distributed across the entire Northern Hemisphere, including Europe, North America, the grasslands of Asia, and North Africa.

Objectively speaking, the red fox has strong adaptability in nature, and it is currently in a least-concern situation, making it a type of creature that is relatively easy to protect well. The red fox mainly feeds on marmots and rodents; of course, when hungry it will also feed on wild birds, frogs, fish, insects, and other animals, and will even eat various wild fruits and crops. So, judging from the red fox's feeding habits, it is actually an omnivorous species. And the appearance of the red fox in the Greater Khingan Mountains this time actually proves our country's efforts in protecting the ecological environment.
