The breeding industry is one of the main components of agriculture. Doing a good job in breeding production is of great significance for promoting economic development, improving people's lives, increasing export materials, and enhancing national unity. So did the state support the breeding industry in 2020? What support policies were there?

1. Did the state support the breeding industry in 2020?

The answer is yes. In particular, the state will strongly support the following three types of breeding operations:

1. Modernized farms

Such breeding enterprises can meet standards in both hardware and software, and farms that adopt modern management and scientific breeding will receive continuous support from the state.

2. Traditional breeding enterprises that meet environmental protection standards

First, the site selection of such enterprises is not in “no-breeding zones”, and all indicators meet environmental protection standards. Such enterprises will also be recognized by state policies.

3. Ecological farms that have been upgraded to meet standards

Old farms all have problems such as site selection, pollution prevention, and management. Therefore, it is necessary to use modern methods to upgrade old farms, abandon traditional breeding methods, and adopt ecological breeding methods. The state will also give policy support to such enterprises.

2. What support policies were there for the breeding industry in 2020?

1. Pig farming

For production facility land such as pig breeding pens, roads within the farm area, and green buffer strips, the upper limit of 15 mu was abolished to ensure land demand for facilities such as waste treatment in pig breeding production.

Breeding facilities are allowed to build multi-story buildings, which is commonly known as “building buildings” to raise pigs.

As of December 31, 2020, the insured amount for breeding sows increased from 1000-1200 yuan to 1500 yuan, and the insured amount for fattening pigs increased from 500-600 yuan to 800 yuan, encouraging places with the conditions to seize the time window and continue to carry out and expand pilot projects for pig price insurance.

According to the subsidy standards released in 2019, for pig breeding operations with a scale of more than 3000 head, the subsidy is 800,000; for 2000 to 2999 head, the subsidy is 600,000; for 1000 to 1999 head, the subsidy is 400,000; for 500 to 999 head, the subsidy is 200,000. Implement subsidies for improved pig breeds, with the subsidy standard not exceeding 40 yuan per breeding sow per year.

The implementation period for interest discounts on working capital loans for breeding pig farms and large-scale pig farms was extended to December 31, 2020. During the extension period, construction funds used by eligible breeding pig farms and large-scale pig farms for newly building, renovating, or expanding pig farms will be included in the scope of support.

2. Chicken farming

In order to ensure the scale and health of chicken farming, some local governments will give certain subsidies for chicken farm construction to farmers who build standardized chicken farms. This can not only encourage other farmers to learn, but also improve breeding efficiency and the quality of breeding products.

For all state subsidy policies for chicken farming, they are basically defined by the number of animals raised. The greater the number, the more subsidies received. This is mainly to encourage farmers to vigorously develop the breeding industry. Under normal circumstances, raising 10,000 chickens gives a subsidy of 80,000 yuan; raising 20,000 chickens gives a subsidy of 100,000 yuan; raising 30,000 chickens gives a subsidy of 120,000 yuan; raising more than 40,000 chickens gives a subsidy of 150,000 yuan. The amount of this subsidy varies by region. Please consult local agriculture bureaus and other relevant departments in detail.
