Now honey can be said to be an agricultural product welcomed by men, women, the young and the old alike, and consumers' demand for honey is growing ever greater, which allows the beekeeping industry to flourish even more. So what are the prospects for beekeeping in 2020? What are its early-spring management techniques?

1. What are the prospects for beekeeping in 2020

Compared with the beekeeping industry abroad, our country's beekeeping industry has great advantages, because beekeeping is a traditional industry in our country, with wide distribution, great potential and strong production capacity, but there is also a gap, mainly the low level of mechanization, backward production means, low labor productivity, and a small number of colonies per unit of nectar-source area. As for the number of bee colonies borne by each beekeeping worker, the higher level abroad is one hundred to several hundred colonies, while in our country the average is only just over 30 colonies. Per unit of farmland area, per square kilometer, the colony capacity: the world's advanced level is 3 to 4 colonies, while our country has only 0.7 colonies.

With the development of society and the demand brought by rising human living standards, the inevitable trend of the beekeeping industry's development is to achieve modernized beekeeping and scientific beekeeping, fundamentally changing the backward state of beekeeping production and gradually narrowing the gap between our country's beekeeping industry and domestic agriculture and the beekeeping industry abroad.

So overall, the prospects for beekeeping in 2020 still have a lot of room for development. Beekeeper friends can only keep updating their beekeeping skills, using modern technology and advanced equipment, and improving their own core competitiveness, so as to go further and more smoothly on the road of beekeeping.

2. What early-spring beekeeping management techniques are there

1. Replace combs and tighten the frames

Choose clear weather with a stable temperature above 10 degrees, and thoroughly carry out replacement of hives and combs in the apiary. Old combs about three years old are harmful to use, but combs whose cells were cut open in autumn must not be used. After tightening the frames, the colony should be kept in a state of many bees and few combs, which can effectively avoid the phenomenon of spring decline.

2. Encourage bees to excrete

At the end of overwintering, you should choose clear, windless weather with a temperature of around 10 degrees, remove the insulation and the lid outside the beehive, and use the sun to warm the hive, encouraging the colony to leave the hive and fly, expel the feces accumulated in the digestive tract during the overwintering period, restore normal metabolic function, and prolong the lifespan of the colony. If the weather is fine afterward, then you can continue to let them excrete, and after the temperature is suitable, remove the insulation facilities in good time.

3. Pay attention to insulation

Although the temperature is rising in spring, there will still be extreme weather such as late spring cold spells, so attention must be paid to doing insulation measures well. You can use paper to seal the hive seams and air windows tightly, and use straw to surround the bottom of the hive and the left, right and rear walls. If conditions permit, you can also cover the beehive with plastic film, cover the inner cover with cotton pads, palm pads or grass pads, and lay several layers of paper on the top bars. This keeps the temperature inside the hive always between 34-35 degrees. If the temperature is too low, it will affect the development of larvae and accelerate the aging of worker bees, making it difficult for the colony to grow strong.

4. Prevent disease and treat mites

During early-spring packing, the combs to be used should be disinfected by methods such as fumigation or soaking in physiological saline, then washed, dried and set aside for use. Before the colony enters spring reproduction, mite removal work should be done well. Generally, use 0.2 ml of acaricide No. 1 plus 500-600 ml of warm water and spray evenly on the bees' bodies, using 5 ml of the medicinal liquid per frame of bees, and spraying twice in succession is enough. In addition, feeding work should be done well, especially after excretion; colonies entering the reproduction period should be continuously fed high-quality diluted honey water to stimulate the queen bee to lay eggs and speed up spring reproduction.

Early spring is exactly the key period for increasing profits. Beekeepers, remember to do protection well and manage the colonies well to achieve better returns.
