Things to Note When Choosing a Site and Building a Henhouse for Laying Hens: Advice for Farmers
Today laying hen farming is becoming more and more widespread, and many new farmers, seeing the profits in it, also want to try their hand at raising them. But once they truly enter the industry, they find all kinds of problems in farming, among which how to choose a site for laying hen farming is a top concern, and there are also many issues to note when building a henhouse. Farmers who are unsure are advised to read on.
I. How to Choose a Site for Laying Hen Farming
1. Site selection must comply with national laws and regulations
When farming laying hens, you cannot build a farm within water source protection zones, tourist areas, nature reserves and other areas designated by national laws and regulations. If you build a farm in the above areas, you violate the relevant regulations and it will definitely be demolished.
2. Site selection must be far from crowds
When farming laying hens, the site should be far from villages and towns and from densely populated areas, and at least 3 km from other farms. This can avoid cross-infection and reduce the spread of disease.
3. Site selection requires convenient transportation
When farming laying hens, although the site should be far from densely populated areas, transportation must also be convenient; otherwise there will be difficulties in transporting both farming inputs and product sales materials. Note that convenient transportation does not mean building the farm right beside a highway, because building beside a highway is very unfavorable for disease prevention and control. The site should be away from main traffic roads while still having a main transport road.
4. Site selection must ensure water source and water quality
When farming laying hens, the site selection must ensure that there is an ample water source near the henhouse and that the water quality is good, preferably meeting drinking water standards. If the water quality is poor and has to be treated later, water purification equipment will need to be installed, and the cost investment is very large. So try to find a good water source in the early stage, which saves time and effort.
5. Site selection must ensure a stable power supply
When farming laying hens, automated farming has very high requirements for power supply. Once the power is cut off, the chickens may die, so the power guarantee must be very sufficient. It is best to prepare a generator for emergencies.
II. What Aspects to Note When Building a Henhouse
In henhouse design, the south must consider heat prevention and cooling, while the north must consider insulation and heat preservation. At the same time, the henhouse cannot be designed too large; it is unrealistic to house 3 million chickens in one henhouse, as ventilation will certainly not meet the requirements. If the farming base is large, multiple henhouses need to be built according to the actual situation. In addition, it must be easy to clean, with no sanitary dead corners. If there are too many sanitary dead corners, too much harmful bacteria and toxic and hazardous substances will accumulate inside, which is very unfavorable for disease control.
Good site selection and henhouse design are the first step to successfully farming laying hens, so farmer friends are advised to do this preparatory work well and lay the foundation for maximizing benefits.
