The peach blossom jellyfish is known as the “giant panda of the water” and is a veritable “living fossil,” with extremely high research value and ornamental value. The peach blossom jellyfish is the only small jellyfish that lives in fresh water, and all are world-class endangered species. Recently, the peach blossom jellyfish appeared in Yunnan, drawing netizens' attention, so how much does a peach blossom jellyfish cost? Can it be kept?

1. What is the story behind the peach blossom jellyfish appearing in Yunnan?

Recently, in Fuyuan County, Qujing City, Yunnan, residents discovered some unidentified aquatic organisms, suspected to be peach blossom jellyfish. After testing and identification by relevant experts, the species was confirmed to be the near-extinct “Craspedacusta sowerbii”.

Craspedacusta sowerbii is a small individual, with an umbrella diameter of 7-20 mm. The umbrella is hemispherical, with 256-288 tentacles around its edge. The umbrella height is about half its diameter; the bottom of the umbrella has a quadrangular digestive cavity, connected below to the manubrium. The end of the manubrium has four oral arms, and the mouth and the edge of the umbrella are on the same plane. Four radial canals connect to the ring canal at the umbrella margin. There are four gonads, in the form of flattened sacs. When alive, it is pale yellow, and its tentacles and umbrella are slightly pinkish-sand colored.

2. How much does one peach blossom jellyfish cost?

The peach blossom jellyfish is an endangered animal, but it is not a nationally protected animal. Because the time and place of its transformation from polyp to jellyfish are unpredictable, it is generally difficult to collect; even if collected, its survival time is very short, and its value is not great. Generally, one can sell for tens of thousands of yuan, and it is not easy to keep alive; it can only survive in lakes with extremely clean water sources.

3. Can peach blossom jellyfish be kept?

Peach blossom jellyfish can be kept.

1. Water quality

Because the peach blossom jellyfish is very sensitive to water quality, it is rarely found in natural environments. If using tap water to keep it, it is best to let the tap water sit in the sun for 1-2 weeks before use.

2. Feed

You can feed egg yolk, but if it is not all eaten it will pollute the water quality, so try to feed live foods, such as water fleas, brine shrimp, and so on. If available for purchase, you can also use bottled plankton for keeping saltwater jellyfish.

Peach blossom jellyfish are relatively difficult to keep alive, so you need to do plenty of homework before keeping them.
