The scientific name of honeysuckle is Lonicera japonica. Because the flowers of Lonicera japonica first open white and then turn yellow, it is named honeysuckle (gold-silver flower). There are two propagation methods in honeysuckle cultivation: seed propagation and cutting propagation.

Seed propagation

In autumn, when the honeysuckle seeds mature, collect the ripe fruits, place them in clear water and rub them, skim off the fruit skins and impurities, scoop out the plump seeds that sink to the bottom, and dry them for storage. When planting, open furrows on the seedbed with a row spacing of cm wide, evenly scatter the seeds into the furrows, cover with 3 cm of soil, compact it, and seedlings will emerge in about 10 days.

Cutting propagation

For honeysuckle cutting propagation, choose branches with vigorous vine growth, cut them into cuttings about 30 cm long, each with at least 3 nodes, remove the leaves, cut the lower end into a slanted cut, tie them into small bundles, soak the cut ends in the plant hormone IAA at 500 mg/kg (500 ppm), and insert the cuttings while fresh. Dig holes, insert 3-5 cuttings per hole, leave 1/3 of the stem above ground, with at least one bud exposed above the soil surface, tread firmly to compact, water thoroughly, and roots and sprouts will form in about 1 month.
