Rehmannia is a perennial herbaceous plant of the genus Rehmannia in the Scrophulariaceae family. It grows on hillsides and in wasteland beside roads at altitudes of 50-1100 m. It is named Rehmannia because its underground tuberous roots are yellowish-white. Its root is one of the traditional Chinese medicines and was first recorded in the Shennong Bencao Jing. Below, let us take a look at the origin and distribution of Rehmannia!

Origin and distribution of Rehmannia

The origin of Rehmannia is mainly distributed across Liaoning, Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Jiangsu, Hubei and other provinces and regions, and it is cultivated throughout China and abroad.

Origin and distribution of fresh Rehmannia

Fresh Rehmannia prefers a mild climate and sunny places, fears waterlogging, and avoids continuous cropping. Its tuberous roots grow rapidly at 25-28°C. It grows in sandy loam, barren hillsides, at the foot of hills, beside walls, and along roadsides at altitudes of 50-1100 m.

Fresh Rehmannia is native to China and distributed in Beijing, Tianjin, Henan, Hebei, Liaoning, Shandong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan and other places. The main producing areas are Henan, Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong and Zhejiang. It is also found in Korea and Japan.

Origin environment of Rehmannia

1. Prefers fertilizer: Rehmannia prefers loose, fertile sandy loam. Highly clayey red loam, yellow loam or paddy soil is not suitable for planting.

2. Prefers light: Rehmannia is a light-loving plant. The planting site should not be close to the edge of a forest or intercropped with tall crops.

3. Temperature: When the soil temperature is 11-13°C, emergence takes 30-45 days. 25-28°C is most suitable for germination. Within this temperature range, if the soil moisture is suitable, it will germinate one week after planting and emerge in 15-20 days. Below 8°C, the rhizome cannot sprout. From planting to harvest takes 150-160 days.
