Saposhnikovia divaricata, also known as Guan fangfeng, Bei fangfeng, Dong fangfeng, Xi fangfeng, Pangfeng, etc., is used medicinally for its root, and can be grown in northeast China, north China, and the provinces of Shaanxi, Gansu, Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu, etc.

Saposhnikovia divaricata has strong adaptability, is cold-tolerant and drought-tolerant, and prefers sunny, cool climatic conditions. It is suitable for growing in well-drained, loose, dry sandy loam soil; clay soil and albic soil are not suitable for growing Saposhnikovia divaricata.

Saposhnikovia divaricata seeds germinate easily and can germinate within a range of 15-25°C. The germination rate of fresh seeds can reach over 50%. The germination rate of seeds stored for more than 1 year decreases significantly, so it is best to use fresh seeds for planting in production.

The optimum temperature for germination of Saposhnikovia divaricata is 15°C. In production, sowing can be done in both spring and autumn. Seeds sown in spring emerge in about 20 days, while seeds sown in autumn emerge the following spring.
