Sage, also known as foreign sage, black grass, autumn salvia, etc., is an annual herbaceous plant of the genus Salvia in the Lamiaceae family. In China it is distributed in Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Hubei, Fujian and other places, growing on hillsides, roadsides, shaded grass clumps, watersides and under forest shade. It is often cultivated as a kitchen herb or medicinal herb. Now let us take a look at sage seed prices and planting methods!

How much is a jin of sage seeds?

The price of sage seeds is about 120 to 150 yuan per jin, but prices vary greatly depending on seed quality, variety, place of origin and the market. Sage prefers a warm environment with plenty of light and good ventilation. The optimum growing temperature is 15 to 22 degrees C. It is drought-tolerant but not waterlogging-tolerant, is not particular about soil, and prefers soil rich in lime. It is best planted in well-drained, loose neutral or slightly alkaline soil. In production, it is commonly propagated by seed or by cuttings.

Sowing methods for sage

1. Seed germination: Before sowing sage, to increase the germination rate and promote early sprouting, the seeds can first be soaked in warm water at 50 degrees C. When the temperature drops to 30 degrees C, rinse them several times with clean water, then place them under a constant temperature of 25 to 30 degrees C to germinate.

2. Seed sowing: Sage can be sown in spring and early autumn, either by direct seeding or by raising seedlings for transplanting. However, the seeds are small, so shallow sowing is appropriate. After sowing, cover with a thin layer of soil and sprinkle water frequently to keep the soil moist.

Planting methods for sage

1. Transplanting into pots: When sage has 2 to 3 true leaves, begin transplanting into pots. Generally, 12 cm to 13 cm nutrient pots are chosen for transplanting. For the growing medium, choose loose, well-aerated garden soil mixed with organic fertilizer and compound fertilizer.

2. Temperature management: After potting, lower the temperature to 18 degrees C, and after one month it can be reduced to 15 degrees C. If the temperature is below 15 degrees C, the leaves will turn yellow or drop. If the temperature is above 30 degrees C, the flowers will be small and the plant will stop growing.

3. Fertilizer management: During the growing period, apply ammonium sulfate diluted 1500 times, which is quite effective at changing leaf color. To make the root system strong and the branches and leaves lush, apply a compound fertilizer containing calcium and magnesium at 100 ppm once every half month, and add phosphorus and potassium fertilizer once before flowering.

4. Light management: Sage likes a sunny environment. In hot summer, appropriate shading is needed. During the seedling stage, increase light to prevent leggy growth. At the same time, when the plant grows 4 pairs of true leaves, leave 2 pairs of true leaves and pinch off the growing tip.

5. Pest and disease control: Common pests of sage include whiteflies and aphids, which need active control. Common diseases include downy mildew and leaf spot. When disease occurs, spray 50% thiophanate wettable powder at 500 times dilution for control.
