The Latest Technical Methods to Increase Goji Berry Yield
Goji berry is a medicinal herb we use quite often nowadays, but we generally use it to make tea or process it into beverages. After several years in the doldrums, goji berry has once again entered our lives. However, due to various reasons, the planting area of goji berry has decreased, and the yield has not been very satisfactory. So many people have expanded their planting one after another, but the results have not been very obvious. So how should it be planted to increase goji berry yield? Let Qinnong Net tell you below.
1. Plant at the right time
If you want to increase goji berry yield, you have to start from the most basic aspects. First of all, every plant has a time and environment suitable for its growth. The most suitable temperature for goji berry growth is around 15 degrees, and it can be planted in most areas of our country. But the most suitable time to plant goji berry is from early March to early April every spring. Whether it is rainfall or temperature, both are very favorable for goji berry growth. Planting at this time, the survival rate is several times that of other times, that is, the survival rate is basically as high as 90 percent, so the problem of goji berry yield is fundamentally solved.
2. Select good varieties
There are now very many varieties of goji berry. Although goji berry has strong adaptability to the environment, some varieties still fall short in certain aspects, such as disease resistance or drought resistance. In the north of our country, the most common goji berries are generally red goji berry and black goji berry, but the yield of black goji berry is not high, which means red goji berry is more suitable for growing in the north. Therefore, when planting, you must choose seeds according to the climate and soil structure of your location, so as to ensure yield.
3. Reasonable density
The goji berry plant is not very large, but you still need to pay attention to planting density. If the density is reasonable, it can also increase yield to a certain extent. The best planting density is a spacing of one meter between plants and about two meters between rows. Of course, we can judge according to the fertility of the soil. If the soil is relatively fertile, then generally about 200 plants can be planted per mu. If the land is relatively poor, at least 300 plants can be planted, so as to ensure the permeability in the goji berry field and allow better photosynthesis.
4. Seedling treatment
Before planting, the purchased goji berry seedlings need to be treated. First, part of the branches and leaves of the goji berry seedlings need to be completely cut off, keeping only the main trunk. Then observe whether there is any damage to the roots of the seedlings. If there is, those roots need to be cut off, and then apply a layer of medicine to the cut parts. Finally, soak the seedlings in clean water for about one day, and then they can be planted. The purpose of doing this is to avoid excessive vegetative growth of the seedlings and to enhance the resistance of the seedlings.
5. Fertilizer and water management
Goji berry can be harvested for many years, so the fertilization each year will differ slightly, but they are generally the same. Each year we generally need to carry out three to four topdressings. In the first year, after the goji berry survives, we need to apply a certain dose of phosphate fertilizer. When it blooms and bears fruit, we mainly use nitrogen fertilizer, phosphate fertilizer and potassium fertilizer, which can prolong the flowering period and increase the fruit-setting rate. The third time is when the fruit is about to mature, mainly using phosphate fertilizer and nitrogen fertilizer, with the purpose of ripening it. Finally, after the fruit is harvested, one more fertilization is needed to ensure the yield of the coming year.
