Sand ginseng is a very commonly used medicinal herb, but wild sand ginseng is now basically rarely seen, and most of what is on the market comes from artificial cultivation, yet the current yield of sand ginseng is not particularly satisfactory. Sand ginseng can be used as medicine, and can also be used to make tea and medicinal dishes; its medicinal effects are all very good, and it is very simple to use. Regular consumption can improve the body's immunity and can also nourish the spleen and stomach, among other things. So how should sand ginseng be grown for the best results? Let Qinnong Web tell everyone.

1. Select superior seeds

There are not many varieties of sand ginseng, but there is one relatively big distinction, namely northern sand ginseng and southern sand ginseng. Although their medicinal effects differ greatly, the cultivation methods are much the same. So the first thing to do when growing sand ginseng is to select seeds. High-quality seeds fundamentally determine the quality and yield of sand ginseng. We generally choose seeds that are relatively plump and undamaged by pests and diseases, as this can increase the germination rate of sand ginseng and the survival rate of sand ginseng.

2. Choose and prepare the land

Although sand ginseng likes light, it is not tolerant of high temperatures, so we should choose a plot where sunlight does not shine directly. At the same time, the soil moisture should not be too high, as this also makes disease very likely to occur. We generally choose loose sandy soil or loess soil for planting. Next, the soil drainage system must be good. Finally, it must not be planted in soil that has been continuously cropped. When preparing the land, it is essential to plow deeply, as this can clean out pathogens and pests in the deeper soil layers and reduce labor for later field management. Finally, spread sufficient farmyard manure as well as potassium fertilizer and phosphorus fertilizer as base fertilizer, then level the land.

3. Sow at the right time

There are three times for sowing sand ginseng. The first is from mid-March to early April each spring. The second is from early June to early July each summer. The last is from the end of August to mid-September each year. The temperature and various conditions during these three periods all better meet the requirements for sand ginseng growth, and sowing during these periods is beneficial to the survival of sand ginseng.

4. Reasonable density

When sowing, we must pay attention: whether using transplanting or direct seeding, reasonable planting density is a necessary condition for high yield of sand ginseng. For direct seeding, we generally open little furrows in the prepared land, then sow at a row width of 15 cm and a plant width of 10 cm, and then cover the seeds with soil. The spacing for transplanting is the same as for direct seeding, and about more than 100,000 plants can be planted per mu. Of course, we can also adjust the spacing of the plants according to the fertility of the soil.

5. Scientific management

There are quite a lot of management matters, so let us go through them one by one. After sand ginseng seedlings emerge, we need to thin them and fill in gaps, and finally establish them in place. After establishment, one watering is needed to ensure the survival rate in the field. Next, about one week after establishment, we need to carry out the first intertillage, weeding, and fertilization, mainly with urea or manure and urine water. At the same time, weeding is done so that nutrients can be fully utilized. Then, when the plants grow to about 25 to 30 cm, we need to water, fertilize, and weed again, and the three must be combined. This time, it is mainly suitable to spray potassium fertilizer and irrigate the roots. Also, when the flowering period arrives, another fertilization is needed, and this fertilization is consistent with the second fertilization.
