Mint is a relatively common medicinal herb among traditional Chinese medicines. Nowadays, many people grow mint. It can not only be used as medicine, but also for making tea, and it can also be grown as an ornamental potted plant. Its medicinal value and use value are both relatively high. Most importantly, mint is very easy to keep alive, and the cost of growing it is not high either. So what are the things to pay attention to when growing mint? Let us learn about the considerations for growing mint together.

1. Time

The time for growing mint needs to be determined according to the climate of the growing area and the mint growing method. Usually, it is grown in spring and autumn each year. Generally, if seed sowing is used, it is planted in March and April and in September and October each year. Next, when using rhizomes for growing, it is generally planted in April or August each year, while for division growing, transplanting can be carried out once the seedlings grow to about 10 to 15 cm, and for cuttings growing, it is best to plant in May and June.

2. Soil

There are certain requirements for choosing the soil of the mint growing area. Generally, it is best to choose sandy loam or alluvial soil for growing. Before planting, the soil pH should be tested. Soil with excessively high or low pH cannot be planted. At the same time, there must be no low-lying or waterlogged areas in the growing area. The drainage system should be relatively complete, the land should be deeply plowed, and attention should also be paid to loosening and hilling the soil to avoid soil compaction, which would affect the growth of mint.

3. Temperature

Mint is a plant that likes warmth and is also tolerant of low temperatures and high temperatures. Under normal circumstances, it is best to grow it in an environment with a temperature of about 25 to 30 degrees. At the same time, note that the lowest temperature cannot be lower than minus 15 degrees, otherwise it will freeze to death. However, in most areas of our country, temperatures basically rarely reach minus 15 degrees, so there is no need to worry about it freezing to death. But in order to let mint grow better and faster, the most suitable temperature is between 20 and 30 degrees, so we can regulate the temperature artificially.

4. Fertilizing

The growth of mint requires a large amount of nutrients, because it mainly promotes the growth of branches and leaves as well as its reproduction efficiency, so it is basically mainly nitrogen fertilizer. Generally, fertilizer needs to be applied about once every month, which can keep mint vigorous. During this period, some phosphorus fertilizer, potassium fertilizer and the like can also be applied in appropriate amounts. If it is to be sold as a potted plant, then fertilizer should especially be applied before sale, so as to maintain the greenness and plant shape of mint, which can improve the economic benefits of mint.

5. Watering

Mint's water requirements need to be strictly controlled. It is suitable for growing in a relatively moist environment, but it also has a certain degree of drought tolerance. In order to increase the yield of mint, it needs to be watered many times throughout its growth process. During its seedling stage, it generally needs watering about once every half month. In the middle growth stage, the water requirement is the greatest, and it generally needs watering once every 5 to 7 days.

6. Pruning

If we are growing mint for many years, mint needs to be pruned. This can not only increase the yield of mint but also improve the quality of mint. Harvesting mature mint leaves at the appropriate time means that over a year it can be harvested in multiple batches, and the quality of the harvested mint leaves is also excellent. But if it is not harvested at the right time, then the fragrance of the old mint leaves will not be strong, and the quality will naturally decline.
