Danshen is a fairly well-known medicinal herb in China, and the root of Danshen can be used as medicine. Danshen is also a common wild medicinal herb, but as market demand for Danshen gradually increased, a shortage of supply began to appear, so the artificial planting area also grew larger and larger. Although Danshen is relatively easy to keep alive, it still requires a certain amount of management, so how should Danshen be managed when it is grown? Let us take a look below!

1. Fertilization management

Danshen is generally planted in winter and autumn, and usually after spring arrives it enters the green-up stage. Danshen is an annual medicinal herb and needs at least 8 months to mature for harvest, and during the cultivation of Danshen it must be topdressed at least three times. The topdressing at the green-up stage is the first, the second is around Qingming Festival, and the last is around the end of June. The fertilizer can all be decomposed farmyard manure, and the application method can be hole application or furrow application.

2. Loosening soil and weeding

After planting, Danshen grows relatively slowly in the early stage, so in order to promote the growth of Danshen, we must do a good job of loosening the soil and weeding during cultivation. Improve soil permeability and promote nutrient uptake by Danshen, and the number of weedings must not be fewer than three. Weeding prevents weeds from competing with Danshen for nutrients and affecting the growth of Danshen. When loosening the soil, pay attention to the force used to avoid damaging the roots, and try to carry out soil loosening and weeding together with topdressing.

3. Water management

Danshen needs a certain amount of water for growth, but it is not tolerant of waterlogging, so during the growth period of Danshen pay attention to the water content in the field. Do drainage work in time, pay attention to clearing the drainage ditches, and prevent poor drainage caused by blocked ditches, which can lead to waterlogging damage. Observe weather changes, water in time during drought, and drain water in rainy weather. When watering, the furrow irrigation method can be used, and during furrow irrigation avoid doing it at noon and speed up the watering.

4. Flowering stage management

During the flowering stage of Danshen, the work of retaining seeds should be done well. Some Danshen plants need to keep their flowers to collect seeds, but plants that do not need to retain seeds should have their flower clusters pinched off in time. Ensure that the nutrients of Danshen are concentrated in the roots, and the removal time of flower clusters should be timely and the frequency should be high. It is best to remove the flower clusters as soon as they emerge; plants kept for seed should retain robust flower clusters with strong growth, and flower clusters that grow slowly and are poorly nourished should be removed in time. In this way, the quality of the seeds is improved and the growth vigor of the plants is strengthened.

5. Plant management

Although Danshen is mainly used as medicine from its roots, the aboveground plants must also be well managed during cultivation. If permeability is too poor, the plants are prone to lodging, which will affect the expansion of the tubers. The tillering of Danshen is unfavorable to plant growth, especially in the later stage, so after the flowering stage of Danshen, all tillers should be removed in time. In addition, after seed plants have finished collecting seeds, the old stems should be cut off in time so that the plants have the ability to regenerate.

The above are the field management methods for Danshen. Danshen is a famous Chinese medicinal herb, and the oldest medical art in our country is traditional Chinese medicine. Therefore, the market demand for Danshen is still on an upward trend, and the market price only rises and does not fall. Thus Danshen is also a planting project with relatively good prospects. That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only, and I hope it can also help everyone.
