Yinchen cao is also called white wormwood (baihao), and in some places it is also called tarragon (longhao cao). It originated in Europe. It contains very rich nutrients and can be used to clear heat and remove dampness, and to treat jaundice. Drinking water infused with Yinchen cao regularly is very good for the liver and gallbladder, and it can directly prevent tumor cancer cells from entering the liver system. At present, the cultivation of Yinchen cao in China is not yet very common, and it is mainly concentrated in the northwest region of China and the Inner Mongolia region, so today let us take a look at how Yinchen cao should be grown.

1. Seed selection and land preparation

Yinchen cao mainly has two varieties, namely French Yinchen cao and Russian Yinchen cao. The areas where Yinchen cao is grown generally have a relatively warm and humid climate. At the same time, the planting site should have sufficient sunlight, fertile soil, loose soil texture, sufficient water sources, and good drainage and irrigation. Land preparation should involve deep plowing of at least about 20 to 25 cm, and sufficient organic fertilizer, cake fertilizer, and barnyard manure should be spread as base fertilizer. The last thing to note is to dig furrows in the field, with the furrows connected to each other, which is beneficial for drainage and water flow.

2. Sowing at the right time

The sowing time for Yinchen cao is generally every spring. There are two sowing methods: seed sowing and division propagation. Seed sowing requires transplanting and setting out later, while division propagation basically has the planting density planned out at the time of planting. Seed sowing is generally carried out around February to around March, and before sowing the seeds should be mixed evenly with fine river sand, while division propagation is generally planted around March or April.

3. Transplanting and setting out

When Yinchen cao grows to about 10 to 15 cm, it can be transplanted. The density at transplanting is generally set at a row spacing of 25 cm and a plant spacing of 20 cm. When setting out, the field needs to be watered once, and then holes can be dug for planting.

4. Field management

About one week after setting out, basically all the planted Yinchen cao that can survive have survived, and those that have not survived will not come back to life, so replanting should be carried out in time. After replanting, topdressing should be carried out reasonably, as this can promote the growth of Yinchen cao and make the Yinchen cao in the field look more uniform. At the same time, it should be carried out together with intertillage and watering, which can not only promote the absorption of nutrients but also enhance the permeability of the soil and speed up the growth rate of Yinchen cao. The main part of Yinchen cao that can be used is its stems and leaves, so when topdressing, we should mainly use fertilizers that promote the growth of stems and leaves, such as nitrogen fertilizer, manure and urine water, etc. Each fertilization can be carried out together with intertillage, weeding, and watering.

5. Pest and disease control

The main diseases of Yinchen cao are root rot and sclerotinia disease. Root rot mainly harms the roots of Yinchen cao, ultimately causing the entire plant to rot and die, and the most fundamental cause is improper water management; chlorothalonil can be used for control. Sclerotinia disease is a fungal infection, and we can use Bordeaux mixture for control, while also fertilizing scientifically to enhance the resistance of the plants. The most common pests are cutworms, leaf rollers, and aphids. There are specialized chemicals for spraying and killing these pests, and commonly trichlorfon, dimethoate emulsion, and dichlorvos can be used.

At present, the area planted with Yinchen cao in China is not very large, and it just meets the market demand, but with economic development the Yinchen cao planting industry will reach a new level, so friends who want to grow Yinchen cao can read this article to help themselves grow high-quality Yinchen cao.
