How to Grow Exocarpium Citri Grandis? The Latest Cultivation Techniques and Methods Tutorial
Exocarpium Citri Grandis is rather unfamiliar to many people, but when it comes to citrus, we all know it; it is a fruit we commonly eat and is popular and well-liked on the market. Exocarpium Citri Grandis is the dried and processed outer peel of citrus, and it has the effects of regulating qi and relieving fullness in the middle, and drying dampness and resolving phlegm. It is mostly used for symptoms such as cough with profuse phlegm, nausea and stuffiness. So how should Exocarpium Citri Grandis be grown? Let's take a look together.
1. Site Selection and Land Preparation
Exocarpium Citri Grandis has broad adaptability to soil and can adapt to an environment with annual rainfall of 1000-1500 mm and air humidity of 75%. It can be planted in red-yellow soil, sandy beaches, and coastal mudflat land. The soil pH is best between 5.5-6.5, and the soil is required to have good drainage and permeability. After selecting the plot, the land should be prepared according to local conditions. For example, in areas with heavy rainfall, drainage measures should be taken well; in areas with poor soil, base fertilizer should be applied; and in coastal sandy beach land, where water and fertilizer retention are poor, windbreak forests should be established and improvement measures should be carried out.
2. Propagation Methods
The propagation methods for Exocarpium Citri Grandis include seeds, grafting, cuttings, layering, and others. Among them, the air layering propagation method can maintain the excellent traits of the mother plant, making it the preferred choice for propagation. Select 1-2 year old branches from a robust mother plant of Exocarpium Citri Grandis that has already flowered and fruited, make a cut or ring-bark the base of the branch, about 3-5 cm wide, and scrape off the outer layer. After one or two days, wrap the girdled area with fertile soil, then secure and tie it tightly with plastic film, and after waiting for roots to form, separate it from the mother plant and transplant it.
3. Transplanting and Field Planting
In the selected planting site, dig holes according to a spacing of 5×4 m, choose a rainy day to carry out the work, water the topsoil thoroughly, and make it into mud. When planting, the root system of the seedlings should be spread out, then fill in soil layer by layer, lifting gently upward while filling so that the root system and soil are closely connected. After filling the soil, water thoroughly to settle the roots, then cover the area beside the hole with grass to keep warm and retain moisture. After planting, replant missing seedlings promptly to ensure a full stand, and water according to weather conditions to keep the soil moist until growth is stable.
4. Field Management
Before planting, base fertilizer can be applied according to the fertility of the soil. After planting, cultivation and weeding should be carried out once every two months, and fertilization should be combined with cultivation. Apply 3 kg of organic fertilizer and 25 g of urea per plant, while for saplings over two years old, apply 5 kg of organic fertilizer and 50 g of urea per plant. Every year in winter and spring, dead branches, old branches, diseased branches, and excessive vegetative branches should be pruned to promote the growth of fruiting branches, increase the plant's permeability, and achieve the goal of high yield.
