How should western azaleas be cared for before and after flowering?
1. The flowering period of this plant
Its flowering time can last about one month. Generally, it blooms from late April to late May.
2. Early-stage care
(1) Fertilizing: If you want it to bloom on schedule and for the flowers to be large and glossy, then fertilizing is certainly indispensable. Around March to early April, we need to use some flower fertilizer rich in P, with a frequency of once every ten days, applying it three or four times in a row. However, when it is blooming, you need to pause, otherwise it will encourage new shoots to grow, which is instead unfavorable for flowering.
(2) Light: Light also plays a big role in its flowering. In fact, this plant itself is very fond of light, let alone during its flowering period. Apart from providing appropriate shade at noon when the light is particularly strong, at other times you can let it bathe in warm sunlight as much as possible.
3. Later-stage care
(1) Fertilizing: For this plant, fertilizer is needed not only in the early stage but also in the later stage, because too many nutrients are consumed during the flowering period. To ensure vigorous growth afterward, sufficient nutrients must be supplemented. However, the type of fertilizer will be different; after flowering, you should use those containing more N.
(2) Light: After flowering, do not let the plant be exposed to direct sunlight. It is best to place it in a position with diffused light, which is better.
(3) Ventilation: After the flowering period, giving it ventilation and air exchange is also very important, so do not forget it.
