Kudzu root is often consumed in our daily lives, especially in the form of kudzu root powder. It has the effects of reducing fever, promoting rash eruption, promoting fluid production and quenching thirst, and elevating yang and stopping diarrhea. It can be used to treat symptoms such as fever, heat disease, yin deficiency, and spleen deficiency. So how should kudzu root be cultivated? Today, the editor will take everyone to learn about the key technical points of kudzu root cultivation.

1. Variety Selection

The main purpose of cultivating kudzu root is to obtain higher economic benefits, so it is necessary to improve the yield and quality of kudzu root. Therefore, the selection of kudzu root varieties is also one of the most basic conditions. Before planting, we need to investigate the local kudzu root market and, in combination with local climate, soil, and other conditions, select high-quality kudzu root seedlings. Varieties such as Musheng kudzu root and Gange No. 3 are currently very good choices.

2. Fine Land Preparation

Another very important basic condition for kudzu root cultivation is the selection and improvement of soil. The most suitable soil for cultivating kudzu root needs to have the characteristics of fertility, sufficient water sources, loose texture, good drainage, and rich organic matter content. Land preparation should be carried out at least about one month before planting. The soil needs to be subjected to weathering treatment to improve soil fertility, and then sufficient base fertilizer should be applied, such as farmyard manure, ternary compound fertilizer, phosphate fertilizer, etc. Finally, trenches should be opened, with a depth of 55 cm and a width of about 50 cm.

3. Seedling Raising Techniques

Before raising seedlings, a seedbed needs to be prepared. The seedbed is mainly based on decomposed stable manure, then covered with a layer of rice straw. Bamboo strips are used to build an arch shape in the seedbed, and a layer of agricultural plastic film is placed on top. The surroundings need to be covered with soil to ensure firmness. After the seedbed is prepared, seedling cultivation is carried out by means of vine cutting or bud node cutting. Among these, bud node cutting is the most commonly used. The length of the bud node is about 10 cm, and then it is treated with chemicals to increase the seedling emergence rate of the bud nodes.

4. Transplanting Seedlings

The main points to note when transplanting seedlings are soil disinfection and management of planting density. Before planting, we need to carry out a comprehensive disinfection of the soil, and then scatter some chemicals to prevent underground pests such as ants and soil cutworms. Generally, about 600 to 700 plants can be planted per mu, so the distance between rows is about 1 m, and the distance between plants is about 60 to 70 cm. Finally, fill in the soil and compact it, and water the soil thoroughly.

5. Cultivation Management

Topdressing for kudzu root in the later stage needs to be carried out according to the growth of the seedlings. Kudzu root is a fertilizer-loving plant, and its usable part is its root, so in the early stage we need to apply nitrogen fertilizer to promote seedling growth. In the middle and later stages, reduce the use of nitrogen fertilizer to avoid causing excessive vine growth in kudzu root seedlings. In the later stage, in order to promote root enlargement, we need to mainly apply potassium fertilizer and phosphate fertilizer, and reasonably spray foliar fertilizer to prevent the branches and leaves from aging. Secondly, we also need to pay attention to building supports when the seedlings grow to about 50 cm, guiding the vines to climb and grow. This can reasonably utilize land resources and also increase the yield of kudzu root. Finally, during the growth of the vines, we should carry out scientific pruning, cutting off some unnecessary vines to avoid nutrient loss and prevent it from affecting root enlargement.
