How to grow turmeric? The latest planting techniques and method tutorial
We all know the tulip; it is beautiful and lovely, but its tubers have extremely high medicinal value. Once the tubers are used as medicine, they have the effects of promoting the flow of qi and resolving blood stasis, clearing the heart and relieving depression, and promoting gallbladder function and reducing jaundice. With proper management, its yield per mu can easily reach five to six thousand yuan. Below, let us take a look together at the planting techniques for turmeric.
1. Land selection and land preparation
Turmeric likes a sunny, warm and humid environment, so when planting, choose sandy soil with sufficient sunlight, abundant rainfall, and deep, fertile soil. This kind of soil has a loose upper layer and a compact lower layer, and has strong water and fertilizer retention capacity. Before planting, plow it 30-40cm. Harrow it finely and level it, and according to the soil fertility status, apply an appropriate amount of farmyard manure as base fertilizer. Turmeric can be intercropped with corn, but continuous cropping is taboo, so rational crop rotation should be carried out when planting.
2. Propagation methods
Turmeric propagation can use two methods, sexual and asexual, but in production, for convenience and speed, the asexual propagation method is generally used. When harvesting turmeric in winter, keep tubers that are robust and disease-free as seed, store them in a ventilated and dry place, and take them out in February-March of the following spring. Remove the soil cleanly, cut each tuber into several pieces, requiring each piece to have 1-2 strong buds, then dig holes at a spacing of 30×30cm, place one seed piece in each hole, using about 150 kg of seed per mu.
3. Field management
Turmeric generally does not need watering before emergence, but if the climate and soil are too dry, it can be watered appropriately. After watering, the water infiltrates downward, and when the surface soil is slightly dry, loosening the soil and weeding can be carried out. When loosening the soil, shallow hoeing is required, and it should not be too deep, so as to avoid damaging the seedlings, while for weeding it is only necessary to keep the field free of weeds. In summer, it is the peak growth season for turmeric, and at this time its water demand is extremely large, so it should be watered frequently to keep the soil moist, but at the same time attention should also be paid to drainage and waterlogging prevention measures during the rainy season, so as to avoid root rot caused by water accumulation. In addition, when fertilizing, more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer should be applied, and topdressing should be done 2-3 times each year to increase the nutrients needed for its growth. When fertilizing, it is recommended to apply decomposed organic fertilizer.
4. Pests and diseases
Turmeric will suffer from pests and diseases during planting. April-August is the high-incidence period for leaf spot disease, and soft rot is very likely to occur in June-July, so prevention and control measures should be taken well. In addition, cutworms often bite off the fibrous roots on the mother ginger, so tubers do not grow, reducing turmeric yield, and prevention and control measures should also be taken well.
