How to Prevent and Control Pests and Diseases of Coptis chinensis? A Detailed Guide to the Latest Methods

General News By Sophie Bennett 0 views
Coptis chinensis is a plant of the genus Coptis in the Ranunculaceae family. Its dried rhizome can be used as medicine, with effects of clearing heat and drying dampness, purging fire and detoxifying, and it also has relatively broad antibacterial effects. Because wild resources are scarce, it is mostly cultivated artificially, but in artificial cultivation production, pests and diseases can bring huge economic losses to farmers.

Let's take a look below at the prevention and control methods for pests and diseases of Coptis chinensis.

1. Powdery mildew

Also known as winter melon powder, it mainly harms the leaves of Coptis chinensis. When the disease occurs, round or oval brown small spots appear on the back of the leaves, gradually expanding or merging to form large lesions. White powder gradually grows on the lesions, and black small particles appear during high temperatures in July-August, which can cause the plants to die and wither.

Prevention and control methods: Reasonable dense planting, adjust the ventilation and light transmission between plants, thoroughly clean the garden in winter, burn or deeply bury the withered branches and fallen leaves in a centralized manner, and spray lime sulfur mixture when the disease occurs, once every week, for 2-3 consecutive times.

2. Southern blight

Southern blight mainly occurs in summer and autumn, mainly harming the rhizome. In the early stage of the disease, there is no obvious change in the aboveground parts. In the later stage of the disease, as the temperature rises, the pathogen extends upward and spreads densely over the soil surface of the rhizome. Tea-brown sclerotia form at the root collar, affecting the nutrient transport of the plant, thus causing the top shoots to begin to wither and die.

Prevention and control methods: Adopt a crop rotation planting method, and it can be rotated with gramineous plants, but it is not suitable to rotate with medicinal materials such as Xuanshen and peony. When the disease occurs, lime water can be used for irrigation or Tuzet can be sprayed for prevention and control. Diseased plants should be removed in time and taken out of the field, and the diseased holes should be disinfected well.

3. Root rot

It generally begins to occur in April-May, and July-August is the peak period. From its name, you can tell that it is a disease that harms the root system. When the disease occurs, the fibrous roots of the plant begin to turn black-brown, slowly dry-rot, dry up, and finally fall off. The aboveground parts also show symptoms, with purple-red irregular lesions appearing on the leaves, gradually turning dark purple-red.

Prevention and control methods: Pay attention to underground pests during planting to reduce the probability of disease occurrence. When the disease occurs, remove diseased plants in time, and spread lime powder in the diseased holes for disinfection to prevent the disease from spreading. In the early stage of the disease, Tuzet and Kewensan can be used for prevention and control.

4. Anthracnose

It generally begins to occur in early May, and June is the peak period. When the disease occurs, strip-shaped purple spots appear on the leaves, and the lesions can merge with each other, finally causing the leaves to dry up and die.

Prevention and control methods: In the early stage of the disease, Bordeaux mixture or mancozeb can be sprayed, with relatively good effects.
