Chinese artichoke is actually very common in rural areas, it is just that people usually do not pay attention to it. After looking at the pictures, everyone will know what it looks like. It mainly has certain medicinal value, and at present there are quite a few growers all over the country, so how exactly should it be planted? Let us find out below.

1. Land preparation

Chinese artichoke is not very demanding when it comes to land preparation and soil requirements, and normal planting treatment is enough. Turn the soil and prepare the bed, break up the clods of soil, with soft and easily dug soil being best, then add fertilizer to build up the soil. For the added fertilizer, farmyard manure mixed with fertilizers such as plant ash is best, as the soil fertility will be stronger. Then carry out blocking treatment, with the width of each block controlled at about 1-1.2 m, with a 20 cm drainage ditch in between, arranged in a rectangular distribution. At this point the land preparation is basically complete.

2. Seedling management

When transplanting seedlings, choose high-quality seedlings and do not use the sowing method, as this can effectively increase yield. After the seedlings are transplanted, water according to the conditions of recent years: if the weather is dry, water a little more appropriately, and if it is humid, reduce it appropriately. When transplanting the seedlings, try to set them upright so that later growth will be faster. After the seedling holes are filled with soil, they should take on a peak shape, which can keep the seedlings appropriately warm and help improve the survival rate. At this time, if the temperature is relatively low, plastic film or straw can be used for insulation measures.

3. Field management

The fertilizer and water requirements of Chinese artichoke are not as high as everyone thinks, and the number of times topdressing and watering are needed is not very many. Instead, weeding requires more attention. One week after planting, seedling fertilizer and water need to be applied. Later, it should be controlled to watering once a month and fertilizing once every one and a half months. If the growth is poor, the timing can be appropriately moved earlier. Weeding in between should be frequent, controlled at three weedings every 2 months, mainly targeting some large weeds. If there is a longer drought in between, loosening the soil is also needed, and watering should be thorough.

4. Pest and disease treatment

Pests and diseases are something Chinese artichoke cannot escape. Because the branches and leaves of Chinese artichoke are relatively favored by insects, its pest problems are relatively more frequent. The more common pests are the two types of organisms in the fly family and aphids. When Chinese artichoke pest problems occur, they are relatively hard to spot, so growers should pay more attention to changes in the growth of Chinese artichoke and carry out targeted inspections. Agents such as pyridaben emulsifiable concentrate or saomanjing have a certain effect on Chinese artichoke pests, so everyone can prepare some in advance. Root rot and downy mildew are relatively common diseases, and chlorothalonil and guangkuling are relatively targeted agents.

The demand for this important Chinese artichoke in recent years has been relatively large, so friends who are interested can consider planting it. It is relatively simple to get started with, and its adaptability is also quite good.
