Schisandra is a premium medicinal herb, divided into southern Schisandra and northern Schisandra. Schisandra is suited to growing in fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soil rich in humus. At present, it is mainly produced in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Hebei and other places in China. So to improve the yield and quality of Schisandra, scientific fertilization is the key. Let's learn the fertilization methods for Schisandra together below.

1. Base fertilizer

Schisandra has a relatively large demand for nutrients and continuously absorbs nutrients, so we need to apply sufficient base fertilizer when preparing the land. The base fertilizer is mainly organic fertilizer, used together with chemical fertilizers such as nitrogen fertilizer, phosphate fertilizer and potassium fertilizer. At the same time, an appropriate amount of trace elements also needs to be supplemented to the soil to improve the soil structure and bring the soil to the state most suitable for growing Schisandra.

2. Growth fertilizer

Growth fertilizer should be applied in multiple rounds, not all at once. Growth fertilizer should not be too heavy, otherwise it will seriously affect the growth of the Schisandra plants. The first topdressing of growth fertilizer is about ten days after the Schisandra is planted out; the amount of this topdressing should not be too large, usually controlled at around one jin, mainly ammonia fertilizer and potassium fertilizer. The second topdressing is one month later, at which time it is applied at a rate of seventy-five jin per mu, mainly phosphate fertilizer, used together with urea and potassium fertilizer. The third fertilization amount should be increased, with an application rate of five thousand jin per mu, mainly decomposed farmyard manure. Later, we also need to carry out reasonable topdressing according to the growth conditions of the Schisandra plants.

3. Flower-promoting and fruit-strengthening fertilizer

Generally, Schisandra begins to enter its flowering period in May each year, and at this time we need to fertilize in advance to promote flowering and extend the flowering period, so as to achieve the goal of increasing the fruit-setting rate. At this time we mainly spray foliar fertilizer, that is, boron fertilizer. Next, between June and August, this period is the fruit-strengthening stage; we mainly use potassium fertilizer and phosphate fertilizer, and it also needs to be used together with foliar fertilizer, so as to improve the quality of Schisandra.

4. Cycle fertilizer

Cycle fertilizer is actually a fertilization carried out after the Schisandra is harvested. Cycle fertilizer is also called overwintering fertilizer, winter fertilizer, maintenance fertilizer, base fertilizer, etc. Topdressing cycle fertilizer is mainly to prepare for the yield and quality of the coming year, and to help Schisandra overwinter safely. So cycle fertilizer is mainly organic fertilizer, and an appropriate amount of foliar fertilizer is sprayed to supplement root nutrition, or biological bacterial fertilizer is used; this not only reduces planting costs but also improves the quality of Schisandra.

The above are the basic fertilization techniques for Schisandra. Generally, mastering these fertilization techniques has a good effect on both the yield and quality of Schisandra. That's all for today's sharing; I hope it can be helpful to everyone.
