Goji berry (Lycium barbarum) is a medicinal herb that is both medicinal and edible. It has the effects of improving human immunity, fighting cancer and benefiting intelligence, and delaying aging, with relatively good health benefits. Before planting goji berry, the first thing to consider is its propagation method. The propagation methods of goji berry can be divided into seed propagation and cutting propagation, and cutting propagation can be further divided into hardwood cutting and softwood cutting. Now let's take a look at the propagation methods of goji berry together.

1. Seed propagation

Sowing goji berry is suitable in April-May. Before sowing, soak the dry seeds in warm water for 8-10 hours. After they have fully absorbed water, remove them, let them dry slightly, and then prepare for sowing. When sowing, open a 4 cm furrow on the seedbed at a row spacing of 25 cm, with a furrow depth of about 1 cm. When sowing, mix the seeds evenly with fine sand, then scatter them into the furrow, cover with a layer of fine moist soil, and press lightly. After sowing, during the seedling stage, water frequently to maintain soil moisture, which is beneficial to the growth of the seedlings. In addition, weed and fertilize, and when thinning seedlings, remove the unhealthy weak seedlings and keep only the strong ones.

2. Hardwood cutting

Hardwood cutting can be carried out in early April. Select robust growing branches and cut them into 5-20 cm sections. Generally, a section with three buds is selected as the seedling for cutting. The seedling should preferably be selected from the base or middle of the branch; the top or tender parts of the branch are not suitable as seedlings. Soak the base of the cuttings in naphthaleneacetic acid for 24 hours, then rinse with clean water and they are ready for cutting. When cutting, insert the cuttings vertically into the seedbed at a plant and row spacing of about 5 cm, with the axillary buds facing upward, and roots will form in about 20-25 days.

3. Softwood cutting

Softwood cutting is generally carried out in June-July. Before cutting, first set up a plastic shed, use a shade net outside the shed for shading, and use fine sand inside the shed as the cutting bed. Collect semi-lignified new shoots, cut them into 12-15 cm long cuttings, remove the base, and keep the leaves on top. Insert them directly into the bed, water three times a day to keep the leaves moist, and ensure the temperature inside the shed is kept at 30-34 degrees. Roots will form one month after cutting, and they can be transplanted after about 40 days.
