How to germinate ginseng seeds? A detailed explanation of the latest methods
Ginseng is a relatively precious medicinal herb, and the techniques for artificially cultivating ginseng are now continuously improving. In fact, for friends who have grown ginseng or learned about ginseng cultivation, most people know that before planting ginseng, the seeds need to be germinated. So how should ginseng seeds be germinated? Now let's take a look together with the editor.
1. Preparation for germination work
The preparatory work for germination mainly involves the timely selection of a germination site as well as the preparation of germination boxes and the site. The germination site is generally chosen as a plot with relatively high terrain, dry conditions, good drainage, shelter from wind, facing the sun, and overall flat. The germination box is generally made from wooden boards two to three cm thick. The germination box should be about 150 cm wide and about 40 cm high, while the length needs to be specifically determined according to the number of seeds sown. After making the germination box, fill the bottom with soil, place the germination box flat on the germination site, and set up the germination box trough.
2. Germination methods
The methods for germinating ginseng seeds are mainly indoor germination and outdoor germination. Next, they can also be divided into germination methods for seeds of the current year and germination methods for seeds of the following year. Finally, there are the specific germination methods, mainly including the aboveground germination method for ginseng seeds, the mixed underground germination method for ginseng seeds, the underground germination method for ginseng seeds, and the summer sowing germination method for ginseng seeds. Here we mainly look at the methods and management techniques for germinating ginseng seeds of the current year.
3. Treatment and germination
For ginseng seeds harvested in the current year, if they are dry ginseng seeds, then before boxing they need to be soaked in cold water for about one day. If they are wet seeds, then they need to be soaked in water with added gibberellin, taken out after twenty hours, dried, and then separately sterilized and disinfected with fungicide. The germination substrate is usually a mixture of humus soil and river sand, with a mixing ratio of 2 to 1. Finally, put the mixed substrate into the germination box, with a substrate thickness of about five cm, then mix the substrate and seeds, load them into the germination box, and finally cover once with substrate about ten cm thick. Control the germination temperature well, and then wait for germination.
4. Management during the germination period
During the germination process, it is not considered successful simply because the seeds have been put into the germination box. During germination, we also need a period of careful care and management. First, we can build a rain shelter at the germination site with a certain degree of light transmittance. Second, dig drainage ditches around it to facilitate water management and also prevent rainwater intrusion that could cause germination failure. Next, use the method of turning the seeds, turning them once every ten days to half a month, but note that when germination is almost complete, they need to be turned once about every week. When turning the seeds, remove the moldy seeds and adjust the moisture of the substrate. During germination, the temperature is generally controlled at about 18 to 20 degrees Celsius, and the maximum temperature cannot exceed 25 degrees Celsius. If germination is about to be completed, the temperature needs to be lowered to about 13 to 15 degrees Celsius. Finally, the humidity in the germination box is generally about 20 to 40 percent, and cannot exceed 42 percent.
The above is one of the simplest methods for germinating ginseng seeds when planting ginseng, and it is also one of the most commonly used germination methods. If everyone wants to learn about other germination methods for ginseng, you can also consult the editor.
