Prickly ash is used extensively in cooking in southern China and is a companion ingredient many people like to add when cooking. It is planted over a large area in our country, but the prickly ash trees of some older growers are gradually aging and their fruit yield is declining. Therefore, seedlings should also be raised appropriately to protect one's own economic returns from cultivation, and raising prickly ash seedlings is very important. So how should prickly ash seedlings be raised? Below, the editor brings you the seedling-raising techniques for prickly ash. Let's take a look!

1. Seed treatment

Select trees with strong growth, a well-formed tree shape and no pests or diseases, about 11 years old, as seed collection trees. Then wait until the fruit color deepens and the peel splits open, and harvest in time. After harvesting, mix the seeds with cow dung, then expose them to the sun. After drying, break them into pieces and store them in a dry place. The main purpose of this is to let the cow dung absorb the oil from the seeds and improve the seed germination rate. Then take out the seeds, wash them, remove impurities, soak them in laundry detergent water for about 11 hours, then place them in a dry, ventilated place ready for sowing.

2. Preparing the seedbed

The prickly ash seedling bed should be chosen on soil with sufficient sunlight, normal drainage and irrigation, and no pests or diseases, ensuring the soil is fertile, loose and permeable. After choosing the land, break up the soil finely and do a good job of deep plowing, keeping the depth at about 30 cm. At the same time as land preparation, apply sufficient base fertilizer, mainly fully decomposed farmyard manure. After applying the base fertilizer, plow the land and open furrows, and make the bed furrows; the main purpose of the bed furrows is for later water and fertilizer management. After making the bed furrows, break up and level the bed furrows finely to create a good growing environment for the prickly ash seeds.

3. Sowing at the right time

The sowing time for prickly ash seeds should be chosen in spring and autumn each year, generally around March and November each year. Sowing methods include drilling and broadcasting; for drilling, the row spacing should be controlled at about 22 cm to prevent planting too densely, and after sowing, cover with fine soil. For broadcasting, first scatter the seeds evenly on the seedbed, and after scattering, also cover with fine soil. Regardless of the sowing method, after sowing, press properly to promote the seeds' absorption of nutrients and water and increase the speed of seed emergence.

4. Seedling stage management

After the prickly ash seedlings emerge, observe the growth of the seedlings and do a good job of thinning and filling in. When the seedlings grow to about 4 cm tall, carry out the first thinning. Then thin again half a month later. When finalizing the seedlings, pay attention to removing weak and dead seedlings and fill in healthy seedlings of the same growth. And when the seedlings grow to about 9 cm, begin finalizing the seedlings. Do a good job of cultivating and weeding, and strengthen water and fertilizer management to ensure the seedlings can grow normally, but water and fertilizer should not be excessive, otherwise it will also have a certain impact on the growth of prickly ash.

The above is a brief introduction to prickly ash seedling-raising techniques. The work of raising prickly ash seedlings is relatively important. The quality of seedling raising is directly related to the growth of prickly ash, so everyone must pay close attention. That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only.
