Sanleng is a perennial herbaceous plant and a commonly used Chinese medicinal material. Its tubers are used as medicine; it breaks blood and moves qi, reduces accumulation, and relieves pain. It is a key medicine for invigorating blood and resolving stasis, and is widely used clinically for gynecological inflammation, cancer, and other conditions. So how should it be planted? Let's take a look.

1. Growth habits

Sanleng is an aquatic plant. It prefers a humid climate, has strong cold resistance, is not afraid of heat, and has strong adaptability. When planting, choose a pond, ditch, or streamside with sufficient water and good drainage and irrigation. It is best to use loose, fertile sandy loam rich in humus.

2. Propagation methods

Sanleng is mainly propagated asexually. Make a seedbed about 25-40 cm deep according to the terrain. At harvest, use the large rhizomes for medicine and keep the small rhizomes as seed. Broadcast or drill them in the seedbed, water thoroughly, and cover with moist soil and barnyard manure to overwinter. In the spring of the following year, irrigate and maintain a water depth of 15-20 cm. Apply timely topdressing to promote seedling growth. Once the seedlings grow to more than 20 cm, they can be transplanted.

3. Transplanting

Before transplanting, prepare the plot and apply base fertilizer. The base fertilizer should be mainly organic fertilizer, combined with inorganic fertilizer. According to the soil fertility, apply 2000-3000 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer per mu, then level and harrow the land. Before lifting the seedlings, irrigate the seedbed, then pull out the seedlings and transplant them immediately as they are pulled. When planting, keep the plant spacing at 15-30 cm and the row spacing at 25-30 cm. If the soil fertility is relatively high, the plant and row spacing can be appropriately increased. After planting, irrigate to 6-8 cm.

4. Field management

After transplanting, control the water level according to the height of the seedlings. Within two months of planting, sufficient water must be supplied. After that, it can be intermittent to facilitate sunning the field, raise the low temperature, and promote growth. However, the water level should mainly not cover the tops, so as to avoid causing seedling death. After the seedlings turn green, apply 50 kg of cake fertilizer and 10 kg of urea per mu as topdressing. When fertilizing, drain water in time and keep shallow water for broadcasting. After 2-3 months, apply topdressing once more according to the growth situation. In addition, do a good job of weed control, pulling weeds as soon as they are seen.
