Rhaponticum uniflorum is a perennial herbaceous plant in the Asteraceae family. Its root system can be used as medicine, has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, and relaxing sinews and unblocking vessels. It has extremely high nutritional value, can treat many diseases, and is a raw material for many Chinese patent medicines. So how is Rhaponticum uniflorum propagated? Follow along with the editor below to take a look.

1. Seed propagation

Every year in summer, when the seeds of Rhaponticum uniflorum mature, collect the mature, plump seeds at the end of June and prepare to sow them. Because the oily layer on the seed surface is relatively thick, seed soaking and germination acceleration treatment is needed. First, soak the seeds in warm water for 2-3 days, changing the water every day, wrap them in gauze and place them in a 25-30 degree environment to accelerate germination, rinsing once a day with warm water, until the seeds show white. Water the prepared seedbed thoroughly, then evenly scatter the seeds on top and cover with 1-1.5 cm of soil. Shade from the sun, and seedlings will emerge in about 7-10 days.

2. Division propagation

Dig out the entire root system of the plant, and according to the number of its sprouts, divide it into several plants, requiring each plant's root system to carry 1-3 buds. Plant the divided plants separately. After planting, water thoroughly once and provide shade. They will survive in about 5-10 days. Seedlings produced by division propagation not only grow strong and develop quickly, but also perfectly inherit the advantages of the mother plant and will not cause variety degeneration.

3. Cutting propagation

Cutting propagation can be divided into bud cuttings and stem cuttings. Bud cuttings refer to the fact that foot buds often sprout beside the mother plant of Rhaponticum uniflorum. When their leaves are not yet unfolded, they can be cut off for cuttings, with a high survival rate, somewhat similar to division. Stem cuttings are generally done in April-May. Cut a section about 10 cm long from a robust branch of the mother plant that has 5-7 leaves as the cutting. Remove the lower leaves of the cutting, keeping only a few upper leaves. Trim the lower end flat, use another branch to make a hole in the ground, and carefully insert the cutting into the hole without damaging the outer skin. The cutting depth is about 3-5 cm. After inserting, firm the soil, water thoroughly, and maintain the temperature for about 15-20 days. Roots will form and it will survive in 15-20 days. When the seedling grows 3-5 true leaves, it can be transplanted.
