The latest technical method tutorial for Paris polyphylla seed propagation is here
Paris polyphylla is also called Qiyeyizhihua (seven leaves one flower), and its medicinal part is generally its rhizome. It is mainly cultivated in Yunnan, Guizhou and other places in China. There are two propagation methods for Paris polyphylla, namely seed propagation and division propagation. Today the editor will introduce to you the seed propagation technique of Paris polyphylla. Let's take a look below.
1. Seed selection
If you are keeping Paris polyphylla seeds yourself, they can generally be harvested in September and October. For the collected seeds, the flesh and seeds must be separated, and seeds with high yield, good quality, plump grains, maturity, no pests or diseases, no mildew, and no mechanical damage should be selected for planting. If the seeds are purchased, then we only need to choose an excellent Paris polyphylla variety, because such seeds are all processed and treated seeds, and their emergence rate is already relatively high.
2. Seed treatment
After the self-kept seeds are screened, they need to be placed at room temperature for warm sand storage for about 25 to 30 days. Then, after the warm sand treatment is completed, carry out low-temperature treatment, which can promote the germination speed of the seeds. The temperature for low-temperature treatment is generally about 3 to 5 degrees, and the storage duration is also about 25 to 30 days. During the treatment process, turn them over about once every week to check whether there is any mildew. After the low-temperature treatment, soak the seeds in a chemical agent to increase the rooting speed of the seeds. Finally, place the seeds under a constant temperature of about 20 degrees for germination acceleration. During the germination acceleration process, spray water appropriately to maintain the humidity of the seeds, and after about one and a half months they can be sown.
3. Sowing and propagation
Sowing Paris polyphylla seeds can generally adopt two sowing methods, namely drilling and broadcasting. Drilling is beneficial to later field management work, while broadcasting is relatively simple during the sowing process. The distance between each row is generally about 5 cm, then the seeds are evenly scattered in the furrows, and finally covered with soil to conceal the seeds. For broadcasting, first level the ground, scatter the seeds evenly, and finally gently press the seeds into the soil so that the seeds are not exposed above the ground.
4. Seedling stage management
After sowing, a layer of dead leaves can be covered on top, and water should be added. An appropriate amount of nutrient solution can be added to the water, which is beneficial for the seeds to absorb nutrients and sprout quickly. Before emergence, water at least 3 to 4 times, and at the same time build a shade shed before emergence; also, fertilize reasonably, mainly with organic fertilizer. Finally, do a good job in pest and disease control, among which the most important are underground pests and root rot and damping-off disease. The underground pests are mainly cutworms and grubs, which can be poisoned with trichlorfon, while root rot and damping-off disease can be controlled with carbendazim.
Seed propagation of Paris polyphylla is the most traditional propagation method, and it is also the most practical propagation method.
