How to grow Sargentodoxa cuneata? The latest planting technique and method tutorial
Sargentodoxa cuneata, also known as Hongteng, Xueteng, Hongpiteng, etc., is a Chinese medicinal herb with the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, invigorating blood and dispelling wind, and relieving pain. It is currently cultivated in all major provinces. So how should Sargentodoxa cuneata be grown? Come and take a look at the detailed introduction with the editor.
1. Site selection and land preparation
For planting Sargentodoxa cuneata, choose an area with an altitude above 600 m, requiring well-drained acidic soil rich in humus, and the planting site should be hillside land or open sparse forest land. After selecting the site, deep-plow the soil 20-30 cm. Remove large stones and break up large clods of soil, apply base fertilizer according to the soil's nutrient status, then make raised beds, requiring a bed width of 1.2-1.3 m and a bed height of 15-20 cm. The bed ditch should be 30-40 cm. This facilitates drainage and irrigation.
2. Propagation methods
The main propagation methods for Sargentodoxa cuneata are seed propagation and layering propagation.
Seed propagation: Pick the seeds in the current year's autumn, in September-October, wash them, and store them in sand. When spring comes the following year in March, take the seeds out and sow them. Generally, drill sowing is used, opening a 10 cm deep furrow on the bed surface, sowing the seeds evenly into the furrow, and covering with 2-3 cm of soil. Then cover with grass to keep warm and moist. After about 40 days, they will sprout and emerge. After one month, thin the seedlings, and transplant in the spring of the second year.
Layering propagation: After Sargentodoxa cuneata sheds its leaves in autumn and winter, take the longer branches growing on the mother plant and coil them into a circle with a diameter of 30 cm. Dig a hole beside the plant's root system, place the circle diagonally into the hole, then cover with soil and press firmly. When placed diagonally, half of the circle is in the soil and half is exposed above the ground, so the half buried in the ground will take root and sprout, while the half exposed above the ground will grow new branches. When winter comes the following year, dig out the layer and, according to the growth condition of the root system, separate it from the mother plant. Cut into individual plants and choose a new site for planting.
3. Field management
For those using seed propagation, water timely after sowing to keep the soil moist, provide short-term shading measures when the seedlings emerge, and when the seedlings grow to 20-25 cm, timely apply a certain amount of organic fertilizer or farmyard manure. After the seedlings are established and survive, timely carry out intertillage and weeding, but it should not be too deep, so as not to damage the root system. At the same time, set up trellises to guide the vines, paying attention to the air permeability between plants.
