The Latest Cultivation Techniques and Methods Tutorial for Rehmannia (Prepared Rehmannia Root)
Prepared rehmannia, also known as rehmannia, is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb of the family Scrophulariaceae. The main medicinal part of prepared rehmannia is the rhizome, which has effects such as nourishing yin and enriching the blood. It is widely cultivated in China and abroad, and the distribution range of prepared rehmannia is relatively large. Now, as the demand for prepared rehmannia grows greater and greater, the cultivation area is also becoming more and more extensive. So how should prepared rehmannia be cultivated? Below, the editor brings you the cultivation techniques for prepared rehmannia. Let's take a look!
1. Site Selection and Land Preparation
Although prepared rehmannia has relatively strong growth ability and can quickly adapt to various soils, if you want to increase yield through artificial cultivation, then first of all you still need to choose deep, loose, fertile sandy soil with normal drainage and irrigation. Then, in the winter and spring before planting, do a good job of land preparation, carrying out deep plowing and medium tillage, with the depth maintained at about 30 cm. And to ensure the soil is sufficiently fertile, after land preparation, apply sufficient decomposed farmyard manure, together with an appropriate amount of superphosphate. Finally, level it and harrow it finely, and make beds ready for planting.
2. Timely Planting
The main propagation material for prepared rehmannia is mainly the rhizome, and the mother stems are mainly taken from plants planted the previous year. Cut off the head and tail of the mother stem, select the middle part for cultivation, and after removing the head and tail, cut it into small sections of about 4-5 cm. Each small section should retain 2-3 buds. After cutting, dip the cut ends in plant ash to promote healing of the cuts, and after letting them dry slightly in the wind, they are ready for sowing and planting. When planting, pay attention to planting density, dig the planting holes with a plant and row spacing controlled at about 28*35 cm, and place two small sections in each planting hole. Then cover with a layer of burnt soil ash and fine soil, strengthen management, and wait for emergence.
3. Water and Fertilizer Management
Prepared rehmannia has a relatively large demand for nutrients, so in addition to applying sufficient base fertilizer before planting, we must also topdress in a timely manner during the growing process to meet the nutritional needs of prepared rehmannia. After thinning the seedlings, the first topdressing should be carried out, with superphosphate as the main fertilizer, in order to promote the growth of the rhizome. Then, when the rows close, sprinkle an appropriate amount of plant ash between the rows to promote plant growth. Prepared rehmannia has a relatively large water requirement in the early growth stage, and we should water frequently, but during the rhizome expansion stage, watering should be controlled to avoid excess water. Also, during the rainy season, drainage work should be done well to prevent root rot from waterlogging and to prevent pests and diseases.
4. Field Management
When the seedlings grow to about 11 cm, thinning should be done well. When thinning, keep the robust seedlings, retaining one plant per seedling hole. If there are holes missing seedlings, then healthy seedlings of the same growth should be replanted in time. During the seedling stage, prepared rehmannia has weak growth ability and its roots are distributed relatively shallowly, so when cultivating, do not go too deep, to prevent damaging the roots of prepared rehmannia. Weeds around the seedlings should be pulled out by hand, and after the rows close, no more cultivation should be carried out. Finally, promptly remove the underground thin stems growing along the soil surface, to avoid excessive nutrient consumption and to prevent it from affecting the normal growth of prepared rehmannia.
The above is a brief introduction to the cultivation techniques for prepared rehmannia. Although the cultivation of prepared rehmannia is relatively simple and its management is relatively extensive, during planting you still need to do a good job of pest and disease prevention and control, to prevent pests and diseases from harming the growth of prepared rehmannia and affecting planting benefits.
